I guess it is semi-competent defense, but over and over we see guy truly destroying like Russell last night and he cools them off.
I think is Okoro is actually a very good defender on the right people. Put him on a 6'2"-6'5" guy who is not a Curry/Young level sniper/ball handler and he's very good. It's not that he has no place, the problem is his place of effectiveness is limited. His best position is like a relief pitcher - when the right matchup is there, bring him in for the innings necessary. But don't expect him to throw a complete game.

I figure the chemistry issue between the big 4 is making him more shy than ever.

The main problem with this is it effectively means we have to pull one of our best players off the floor to play him OR we need to ask a player already shouldering an enormous offensive load (Mitchell) to also get his ass kicked on defense, guarding 3's.

That is the biggest issue with Okoro to me......is that his size and defensive skillset mean a lot less because of how he fits with our two best guards. If he had utility guarding the Paul George's of the world, fine but I don't think it is particularly hard to find a non shooting guy who can guard 6'3" types. We could probably have gone out and get one of the best in the league (Thybulle) for a ham sandwich a few weeks ago.

I don't discount Okoro could be an interesting role piece on a team like Boston (with big wings)......I just think he's a bad fit relative to the roster and he's a complete sunk cost given our developmental return and draft capital investment at this point.

Since it doesn't really matter at this point let's just imagine, for a second, Haliburton on this team. He's made his leap here in year 4. Playing like an all-star.

Just...imagine. :banghead::banghead:

Also the trade value Haliburton had and the willingness of Koby to trade off young talent, it kind of changes the reasoning of why not to draft someone like Haliburton. Also Okoro basically being able to guard the same exact positions as Haliburton.

I also think Haliburton would have gotten over not being drafted by the Kings fairly quickly and bought in to being part of our young core.

I was listening in my car and let out a terrifying WHOOP when he drained that sucker.
And then Jim Chones got all misty-eyed.
High point of the whole season for both of them.

i would like to see more DNPs for okoro. he needs a very specific match up for him to be effective, which comes only every 3 games or so. dean and lamar should be the default rotation guys.

Quick summary of what you said.”Okoro can’t do jack shit except for stopping some small,mediocre D-Leaguer’s

how come the cavs front office cant do this shit

Because Okoro is in our rotation. We need someone to play backup SG minutes, either start Wade, and LeVert can back up SG and Lamar backs up some at sf and Levert the rest, or Windler needs to be healthy and play SG. Wade cant play SG, I really doubt Windler is usefull either. Issue is we need Okoro in our rotation right now.

Throw him on a Nick Young or an Alec Burks and we're going to be praising the guy... People were exclaiming that he did a great job on Derozan. But he was mostly guarding Lavine who went off for like 30+ on us :chuckle: Russell was on fire but I think Okoro was between Russell and Edwards so can't fully put the 30 on him. I'd put him in the average to above average defender category. But what he gives you on the defensive end does not make up for what he takes away for the entire team on the offensive end. I think Neto even gives you more.
