Okoro has something of an old man's game off the dribble. Not dissimilar to late stage LeBron. Uses strength, footwork, spins to work to the basket. Can use either hand to reach the basket and then finish with either hand. He should have more space to work with in the NBA, so I expect his athleticism to be more apparent in ISO situations.

Underrated finisher. People are sleeping on him there. If he gets his jumpshot poppin there will be very little defenders can do.

I wrote this elsewhere, but not that Okoro talk is heating up I will include it here.

When I watched Okoro play in college, I wanted to believe he is a 3. I do really like his toughness and effort level on both ends of the floor. But I kept thinking about Caron Butler's career.

First Butler is drafted by the Heat, he didn't fit with Dwayne Wade because he really wasn't a 3 so he became the centerpiece of the Shaq trade.

Then he didn't fit with Kobe Bryant, because they are both shooting guards, and he was packaged to Washington to finally play shooting guard... and became an All Star. Stevenson defended LeBron, Butler usually took the Cavs best guard on the floor.

I'm ready to be wrong, but I become very hopeful Windler can handle SF if they go with Okoro. I can't shake the doubts he is more of a shooting guard than a guy who defends forwards.

I just can't see it. I can't.

I won't be the type to whine and complain if we take him. I'll support it and hope the Cavs FO sees something that I just do not.

Avdiji - Okongwu - Toppin is my preference (in that order.... assuming Edwards/Ball/Wiseman go 1-2-3 in some order).

KPJ, Windler, Butl- err Okoro, is a crowded SG position.

and asking any of them to defend 3's for a living may be a disaster.

Hope Koby knows what he's doing!

FWIW, I think @Randolphkeys nailed the Caron Butler comparison. Okoro is stout but his lack of length does limit his disruptive ability on long shooters. This shines through even during his defensive “highlight” reels where he shows amazing feet and anticipation. His arms just aren’t very long. I think he’ll still be a nice defender, it does limit his ceiling in that regard somewhat.
On ESPN his wingspan is listed at 6’10

I've seen 6'8.5 in a whole lot of places, don't know if you want to go with 6'10 as a lead pipe lock.

I don't think so. Especially if you can pair Okoro and KPJ together.

Also, about 3's. Length is great, but guarding them usually is about strength. Cedi is plenty long enough to guard them and is legit 6'8" but he just doesn't have the strength. He gets knocked out of the way.

Think of it this way. Would you rather have Thybulle or Dort on Lebron? Thybulle is longer and is the better defender? A stronger guy with a sturdy base and quick feet is best.

You just put Porter on the quicker dude and Okoro on the stronger guy.

Quick guards have more trouble with length, big 3's have more trouble with quickness and strength.

His role is going to be like Iguadala. Both have quick hands and attack rollers low, both do a lot of ball denial and get up under you to undermine your balance.

Okoro also has no official combine measurements and is one of the youngest guys in the class.

His height of 6'6 does come from his senior year of high school.

By the way, can anyone point me to the correlation between length and defense?

Ideally he'd be longer I agree. But his strength cant be understated. I think he will be able to handle 3s easily because of that and because hes also a quick twitch jumper and a heady defender. Maybe the ones he'd struggle against are the long elite scorers like Durant etc. But even then, I remember Tony Allen and Justise Winslow defending bigger guys - they were so in your face physical and difficult to move that they could do it well.

His length could end up being a somewhat limiting factor, but he has everything else going for him so I think he should be fine most of the time. It's good enough for me of he doesn't end up an absolutely elite defender but only a pretty good one.

Another thing I would advocate for is how now most of the bigger 3s end up playing a lot of 4. It's not exactly like in Butler's time when the 3s were like the stretch 4s we have today. Really only who could be dangerous at the 3? The absolute elite guys (who in crunch time are more at the 4) or maybe guys like Ingram?

What I worry more about is him guarding 4s. Coz it would be nice for our 3 to be able to guard the 4s too, but I think he will be able to do that too because of the strength and physicality (like I was saying above).

I could be all wrong ofc, but he gives me a lot more hope than worry. Offensively whether he is more suited to play 2 or 3 (or 4) I don't think that will be an issue. They're all becoming just wing positions anyway.

Okoro seems like a very “Jordan” pick in the MKG mold, to me anyway. Hornets have to be a big wildcard in this draft process

Please let CHA take him. hat guarantees us one of Ball or Deni.

Taking Ball would set this team back tremendously. Ball is Michael Carter Williams with Trae Youngs trigger. He's going to be absolute trash at the NBA level.
