A lot of what I'm hearing about Okor sounds like what people were saying about Jarrett Culver and De'Andre Hunter. I was not a fan of drafting Culver or Hunter.

I was a fan of Hunter and not Culver. Culver has a hitch in his jump shot that was never gonna be feasible in the NBA, he shoots the ball too slowly. Okoro is younger, smarter and has no weird hitch. To me all 3 are quite different players

After 2016, it’s all gravy. I can live with watching a 30 win team if I know guys like Sexton and Okoro are leading the way and leaving it all on the floor. It’s the do nothing, care about nothing loser teams that ruin the NBA for me. Okoro may only have a 10% chance of fixing all of his respective issues and becoming an all-star, but you got to be pretty confident that he will do everything he can to reach that 10%.

We also need a wing, we also need good defenders because our defense is fucking horrible, we also need somebody who is not going to be miserable playing in Cleveland. He checks those boxes. And truthfully, this draft isn’t good. We keep saying it but it needs to hit home for some people. It’s entirely possible this kid ends up one of the top five players in this draft

Fair point in terms of how they were all described, so I looked them up to compare them.

Culver was a sophomore, Hunter a redshirt sophomore who didn't even start until his last year, and Okoro a true freshman. So that's a point in Okoro's favor. The biggest thing I noticed otherwise was that Okoro shot 51.4% from the field -- again, as a true freshman. Culver shot 45% from the field as a freshman, and 46% as a sophomore. Hunter shot 49% as a redshirt freshman, and 50.6% as a r. sophomore. Considering that Hunter was a better outside shooter, that looks to me like some validation that Okoro is a better slasher/finisher than either of those other two guys. Okoro also made all-conference first team defense as a freshman, which is impressive.

Also think that Okoro is a better athlete than either of those guys. Much stronger than Culver, and much more explosive than Hunter.

But...who the hell knows. I think he's elite in terms of slashing/elevating/finishing, but he's not going to breakdown a defense the way a guy like Edwards can.

One scout's inside opinion of this draft

Here's their write up on Okoro:
Isaac Okoro, 6-6 freshman guard, Auburn “He could be the best perimeter defender in this draft. Big-time intangible guy. It was pretty telling that he played at Auburn with five seniors, and they couldn’t win a game without him. The big question is the jumper. It’s not broken, but it needs a lot of work. He shot 60 percent from 2 so this dude can finish, and he gets to the foul line a lot. A special athlete. Really thick and strong. Wants to do all the blue-collar stuff. Years away from being a good shooter. I think he’s in the top six or seven of this draft. Everything checks out background-wise. Might have the most upside of anybody.”

FWIW, I think @Randolphkeys nailed the Caron Butler comparison. Okoro is stout but his lack of length does limit his disruptive ability on long shooters. This shines through even during his defensive “highlight” reels where he shows amazing feet and anticipation. His arms just aren’t very long. I think he’ll still be a nice defender, it does limit his ceiling in that regard somewhat.

This is the most obvious choice because Okoro fits this team perfectly but this organization like overthink shit....
I agree. Okoro would be a perfect fit, culturally & need wise. However, I don’t expect the Cavs to take him because they prefer more polished prospects, like Hunter, Windler, Toppin, etc. and they have concerns about his offensive game.

I rather have a player that has alot of upside than a player that already reached his ceiling....

But can we say that after drafting Garland, Sexton and KPJ? Those picks were all projects. I don't think the Cavs have a clear preference either way.
