Who was that out there? Steph Okoro?

Great to see the happiness from Okoro.

I know he reads the comments and how many of us (Including me) gave up on him and wanted him traded in a package with Love.

Even before this shot he has made me very proud and i was already cool with riding with him next season.

Dude has practiced and worked on his jumper and now has it at NBA average which is something that many of us never thought he’d do. He needs to keep putting on muscle, keep practicing defense and 3s because that’s his ticket to lasting in this league for 10 years. His playmaking we saw in college is simply never gonna translate to the NBA but he can absolutely be a Trevor Ariza type dependable guy

My favorite part of the whole celebration was easy to miss but I caught it on the second watch:

Garland was subbed out on the final possession for defensive purposes. As soon as the desperation shot went up and was clearly going to miss, Garland sprinted from out of bounds at the baseline straight to Okoro, screaming and beaming out of joy and excitement to hype his teammate up.

Darius is a special guy and a leader, and he knows how massive that shot was for Ice and the team.

This is a special group of guys. I know we meme a lot about chemistry and there are times too much is lost in the name of it (not trading Wally, anyone?), but it’s something Koby has to be delicate with. These guys seem to pretty clearly love playing together despite struggles and shortcomings. I think that will shine through on the playoffs over the coming years.

The look in Donovans eyes as he hugged Okoro was wild. He was so proud of him

The guys love him and sees what he works on. He's been a very important part of them winning.

You gotta watch the guy in the light blue bottom middle of the screen. He is losing it when the ball is loose knowing the nets will win. The way he deflates and then gets infuriated is just unbelievably hilarious

Rick Kamla and Amin Elhassan used their opening segment on Okoro and the Cavaliers. They were effusively praising Levert’s pass and Okoro making that shot. Played the Serena interview, went over Ice’s career and hard work and how great it was that two role players got it done. Amin said this was bigger than just winning that game because the confidence LeVert had trusting Ice, the made bucket and the crazy team celebration was a big moment for the team going forward. Kamla said twice “this team will be a problem in the playoffs.”

Our kids are too young and too inexperienced to realize they are too young and too inexperienced to make a deep playoff run.

Teams are not going to leave Ice quite as wide open as they have done to date. Ice doesn’t have to be a big scorer from three; keeping defenses honest is enough.

And for those thinking he’s only good from the corner on threes - that’s correct for now. The young man has a lot of summers in the gym ahead of him. He can learn more shots.

I know there’s been a lot of negativity throughout the season about Okoro.

That is why you can’t judge based on one game or 10 games or a couple months. You have to have patience and see on how a player develops throughout the year. Also you can see year to year development. Players are going to make mistakes, players are going to have off nights, etc. It is how they adapt and what parts of their games are improving.

Okoro has developed really well these past 3 years. Not sure if you remember year 1 Okoro shot 23% from 3 on the road. Rookie season is very hard to adjust from college especially with the number of games and the long travels in the NBA including back to backs. This year he’s shooting 39% from 3 on the road. It’s pretty impressive.

Beginning of the year 3 season, first 20 games he gets into bad fouls and he sticks his hands in the air. Then he focused to work on not getting picked up bad fouls as a defender. He worked on it, studied film, and also studies his opponents on game film preparation. You hardly see that now.

If you are S34, my prediction before the season started was that Okoro would be one of the two most improved players for this team this season.

It was always a 3-4 year development plan for him. Seeing him take many shots daily in practice as first person to get into practice shooting corner 3s and the last person to exit practice. That’s how much work ethic and dedication paid off and one of the rewards he faced last night. Not just making 3 of 4 3s but winning a game winning 3.

Very happy for Okoro.

Handle and playmaking. If he can improve in those areas just a little and get that 3 pt volume up, that starting five is going to hurt people.
