Watch a replay of the last Sixers game. Who do you think Embiid was guarding much of the game??? Okoro. How much energy do you think Embiid used on the defensive end? The Cavs 2nd possession of the game illustrated the problem. The ball is on the right side of the court and 9 of the players are on that side of the court too. The exception is Okoro, all by his lonesome in the left corner. The guy "guarding" him, Embiid, is actually underneath the hoop on the other side of the basket from Okoro! Garland tries to drive but there's nowhere to go since Embiid is waiting for him in the paint, so he actually dishes to an all alone Okoro who is heading to the hoop, where of course his dunk attempt is swallowed up by Embiid. Next possession down Mitchell hits a three, but again Embiid is 25' from Okoro, just resting on D waiting to help in the paint.
Okoro's lack of scoring is not the issue, the issue is that other teams realize that he is absolutely no threat to them, forcing Mitchell and Garland to go through an extra defender and allowing whomever is guarding him to rest. Last year in the play in JB had to yank Okoro against the Hawks as Atlanta had Trae Young on him, and Young was able to rest on D as Okoro made no effort whatsoever on the offensive end. When the playoffs come this year you will see the same thing, teams will totally ignore Okoro making it much tougher for everyone else.
Okoro doesn't do anything to directly lose a game, but he makes it much more difficult for everybody else to win one. It's why come the playoffs you will probably see LeVert playing 35 minutes a night and Okoro for about 15. Okoro is fine as a 7th or 8th guy off the bench, but in the starting line up he exacerbates spacing issues which are already difficult to play with in today's game.
The last Sixers game absent JA? Ah yes, Spacing Uber Alles....

Okoro is not a + shooter. He's just not ridiculously bad anymore. He is shooting mainly "free throws" from 3. I was at the Philly game and could see the floor well. Every shot he (and Stevens) took is because they wanted him to take it. Every good team we play from here on out is going to dare Okoro, Stevens & Rubio to beat them from 3.

Over 35 is +

and Grant Williams will need to make free throws.

I know from the Lebron years, Championship teams get big contributions from everyone to win.

People still talk about Dahntay Jones and Mo Williams scoring 4 pts in that 16 series.

you really think that if they played Wade the same way they play Okoro he'd have the same numbers? Talk about wondering if people actually watch games or just look at numbers . . .

Put words on my post then draw an unrelated conclusion. 0/2.

I'm not sure that over 35 (on only a few shots per game) is plus anymore. League average is 0.361 this year, on extremely high volume. Okoro makes a lower percentage on an unusually low volume for a guard.

I agree he's not terrible anymore - but he's somewhat below average for his position.

Agree that 36% is a better figure for average and also Okoro has a very low # of shots. He's well below average as a shooter / scorer but he spends most of his time at the 3, not as a guard.

Against many opponents we don't need him to take more shots but this is likely to be an issue in the playoffs. I expect to see his minutes go down some in the playoffs and Levert's go up (this is happening right now in fact).

Without question if Levert keeps scoring and defending like this, he will eat significantly into Okoro's minutes.

There will be defensive matchup's one or the other is better at exploiting.

I continue to be befuddled by the foul calls these lesser teams get against the Cavs. #1 defense doesn't mean shit home or away

Refs just don’t know what rules are anymore and the nba is allowing it cause it helps with the flow of the game

Cavs need to rest Okoro for a few games.

And to think the majority of you just wanted to ship him off to Guantanamo Bay….I am throughly disgusted!

There’s zero chance for you to get on the Okoro-Rescue Yacht now…A yacht, btw, that is very nicely temperatured with plush seating, naked women serving some of the finest meats & cheeses — indoor heated pool, hot tubs, illegal cigars and party favors in addition to a fully stocked bar—- as the Captain of this Yacht I’m going to go make another Mojito…. ON THIS YACHT !!!

Sucks for you Okoro haters having to swim back in those shark infested waters with menstruating women…. Yea you’ll probably die…. Water looks cold— Meanwhile the “ICE” ON THIS YACHT, IS HOT !!!!

Ahhh well, best of luck… Toodles !
The Yacht is still cruising….

Time for a Mojito !!!
