Isaiah Hartenstein: wowing people in Vegas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Are we sure we only have his early bird rights? Since we traded for him, whatever rights Denver had transfer to us. Didn't Denver have his full bird rights?

I just don't want Mobley starting at Center if Allen gets hurt

This. Being forced to play Kabengele important rotation minutes at center is much more scary to me than being forced to play Cedi important rotation minutes at SF. And that's what would have to happen against a lot of starting centers if Allen is hurt, unless we want to trot Mobley or Nance out there like sacrificial lambs.

I will say, Koby has had a talent for pulling a center out of his ass for a couple of second rounders, so if we don't sign Hart, I am not in panic mode.

I am not sure of anything except early bird and full bird wont matter on this one. I think its early Bird because it was a 2 year contract, but early bird allows for 10 mill a year for Hartenstein and i would shit myself if Hartenstein got that much.

Still not digging the new title.

This newest one makes me think that there’s a public open casket funeral in Las Vegas at a casino and people who don’t watch basketball are just commenting on his impressive size as they walk by.

Closer I guess.

Yep. Somehow the 6th big is going to start if Allen is hurt. Seems less than ideal.

Alot of the issue stems from paying Love so much when he is so totally unreliable. Right now Allen, Mobley, and Nance are the only guys the organization can count on when it comes to the frontcourt. Mobley is a skinny rookie and Nance hasn't exactly been a paragon of health. I prefer they not play Nance at the 5 anymore and am fairly certain Larry feels the same way.

My impression is that most of the instances where "positionless basketball" backfires is when a team plays a SF/PF who lacks the proper defensive skills at C, or when a team plays a SG/SF who lacks the proper playmaking skills at PG. The Cavs have had a lot of experience with both of those scenarios in the last few years, and they can't afford for those things to happen this season if they want to actually win games.

Allen is a good start obviously, and pretty durable, but he's the only guy on the roster who's proven that he can competently play center for extended minutes. We need to add at least one more, and you'd think Hartenstein is the clear choice.

Yeah, I agree we should bring him back unless the price is outrageous and it's basically because we can't trust that any big is playing other than Mobley and Allen... with Nance still questionable, and Love???. But I feel for Hartenstein, he could probably start on a few teams.

I also don't understand the whole "prioritize wing" comments at this point. There literally are no wings left. :chuckle:

I'd rather have an insurance body that protects our recent draft pick, then I would another wing that is as bad as Cedi.

The wing pipe dream flew off in to the night what? Two weeks ago? At this point, we just need as many playable bodies as we can get. Then try to address the problems on the wing via a trade during the season.

Yeah…while it’s not necessarily likely that Cedi will have a bounce back season, or Windler will stay healthy, or Stevens will figure out how to shoot, or Wade will take the next step…it’s even more unlikely that a quality rotation center will appear out of thin air. Kabengele was mediocre at best in summer league, and if there’s anything we learned about Mobley, it’s that he’s probably best at PF for now. So it makes a lot of sense to go ahead and sign Hartenstein, then figure out as we go what (if anything) we need at SF.

Mobley will benefit from bringing back Hartenstein. IH has decent
skills and is a big body who runs the floor and doesn't clog
the lane. IH could guard the opposite big, instead of leaving
it up to Mobley.

The cavs getting serious about hartenstein is all about kabengle sucking it up in summer league

I wonder if Hartenstein is trying to find somewhere that he can get consistent minutes. The Cavs could have an offer on the table for him but he could be looking to be higher up on the pecking order on some other team. Being a team's 6th big man even if he is considered the only other full time center behind Allen, isn't great for him to advance his career.

Hartenstein knows that his minutes will get cut into as Mobley fills out and gets more comfortable in the NBA. The coaching staff could also opt to play Love, Nance, or Wade at center to help spacing for Mobley's development.
