I don't know that we even need Allen to stay so thin... I'd be ok with 10lbs of fat on the guy too, ha. Heavier is almost always stronger, not to mention it wears the other team down more trying to move him around.

Allen gave an interview yesterday, and he said with our new movement offense he won't be packed in the paint so much.

He also mentioned wanting to be able to switch 1-5 defensively. I don't know if that's just a goal or how effective that kind of system would be, but that was the idea behind keeping lean.

He and Mobley don't need mass nearly as much as they need functional strength. Many of the all-time defensive great big men in NBA history were light. But they compensated by being strong.

Guys like Hakeem, Cambey, & Garnett. Even guys like Rodman or Duncan were not hulking masses.

Ben Wallace epitomizes the muscular type.. Rasheed was strong and had a mean streak, but was not brutally tipped..

Shaq of course was just massive. But I think Wilt the stilt was pretty ripped..

Honestly, part of me thinks that all the Cavs need is a rotation big who is going to make the officials think about how much shoving and/or hacking they want to tolerate. Maybe TT can fill that role, but I suspect that one of the reasons Stevens is no longer here is that, despite his size, he didn't.

I’m expecting him to reclaim his spot as a top 5 center this season.

He’s naturally a kind soul. But i think he has more dog in him in a competitive situation than we know.
We've seen it. In Brooklyn, I used to hate it when the Cavs had to face him. I had no idea of his off-court demeanor, all I just remembered was being cooked by this Afro Samurai lookin dude. We've seen it with the Cavs, as well. Generally the rim protection is upper tier. He wasn't Ben Wallace, one of the greats, but he was certainly better than most of the guys they were running since TT left the building the first time.

He's better than TT was.

Multiple pundits have mentioned hammer screens where there is dribble handoff from Allen or Mobley to guard or SF into the corner. Niang should be able to do that too It's how Miami used Bam in the corner to create space.

Cavs really need to do this as Allen was largely ineffective on offense when he was not in the dunker's spot, which is where they moved Mobley last year
