I'm honestly hoping they reveal he has a nagging injury that will be ok by next year. He really hasn't looked fast or quick off his feet since the concussion
After a few rough games post-concussion, I thought he had a really nice stretch before Garland went down and the team went full tank mode.

Checked out in a contract year? That in itself is not a good sign. Either dude don't want to be here and is willing to take less money or he's not someone we can depend on. Both bad.
it's not like he's fallen off the planet in his effort and ability to contribute. He's still scoring and defending the paint. Maybe not at a level that's to your liking and expectations, but the guy has been getting ridden hard since he got back and the concussion may still be a factor.

The 2 scenarios you describe aren't the only possibilities. How many players in the league can be "depended on" when they're in Allen's current situation? He knows he has value and he knows he'll still get paid commensurate to that value.

Had some ok games, but the body language and athleticism we saw when he first came is gone. He is lacking some pop.

Must be frustrating, this is a hard season. I'd prefer a some physical issue that can heal than lack of mental toughness.

After averaging 14.2 points in April he's under 9 points per game in May. He's below 50% from the field in May after shooting 67% in April.

I suspect the concussion is still a factor because he's not the same player. I also think the loss of his assist buddy Garland is a factor as well as teams being more conscious of the lob and taking it away.

I'd like to see him protect the ball better, stop getting cleanly stripped so often, reduce his fumbling away of passes and rebounds, and do a better job of finishing when right at the rim, especially against a smaller defender.

Long, tough season. Need the guys to go home and rest up. I’m not too concerned about these past several games against tough opponents with so many players out. Hopefully we’ll have better luck on the injury front next season.

Trust me I want to keep the guy and want him to succeed but there have been many players in his position who just played the season of their life when it's a contract year in any sports. I just feel that his heart is not in it to be here. He plays like a player who is conflicted. Like do I have any to play out of my mind and stay here because I don't think I can say no when they traded for me. Or should I play like shit so they low-ball me and I have a reason to say no and not look like a bad person.

Thanks for clarifying. I suppose you could be right (or maybe not). If he did feel that way I'd have a hard time blaming him given the current state of this franchise. If he truly does feel that way it bodes ill for this team. I would imagine he wouldn't be the only one, so I hope you're wrong about this.

Along with workings on his baby hook and a few others moves around the basket, I think his biggest weakness is his strength, he lets other big men get good low post position on him, and he often get out muscle on both ends of the court.....The kid really has a bright future if he wants it.....

This is what I'll say after seeing him for a majority of the season.

He's not a guy on the verge of stardom. But he's a decent, mid-level starting center.

If I were to rank starting centers, I'd probably have him a little outside the top 10.

Problem is he will likely want top dollar. If he gets top dollar, will he work on his game and body or retire in place.??

I’m betting we give him something around 4 years $70M, which seems about right.

If he were on the verge of stardom or even a top 5-7 guy, we’d be looking at about twice that amount.

Pluto had this today...

Allen will be a restricted free agent. That means another team can make him an offer, but the Cavaliers can match it....

What will Allen cost? In the summer of 2018, Clint Capela (an Allen-type big man) signed a 5-year, $90 million extension with Houston. He’s now with Atlanta. That would be low-end contract for Allen because it was signed three years ago.

I talked to an agent who could picture Allen’s talks starting at $100 million for five years and going up -- perhaps to $125 million, $25 million a year. It’s not a maximum deal, but it’s close.

What they're saying...

At 22 years old, he’s not near his potential ceiling yet. That’s the part I’m most excited about. He knows there’s room for growth and there’s a high ceiling for him. He’s willing to put in the work and he’s trying different things, not just staying in his box. I think there’s a lot of room for Jarrett. I think there’s a lot there that we can tap into. Help him become a better player and kind of open him up, kind of unlock his game and give him that confidence and freedom to do more than maybe he’s done in the past. - Bickerstaff 2/26/21

Jarrett adds a piece that, certainly (fits a) long-term vision in terms of how we want to play, how J.B. wants to play. Everything we know about him, he’s a wonderful person, great character, about team. Brilliant intellectually, fits our young group. - Koby Altman

To add a center that’s 22 years old, going into his fourth year in the league, that’s proven, that has more upside, that has all the intangibles you look for to add to your culture, to have that opportunity yesterday, we just felt was too good to pass up. - Altman

I'm guessing his contract will be determined by another team. They'll make him an offer and the Cavs will match.

I do like this kid and think he does have upside as he adds strength and works on his game. I like the idea of him and Hart being a long term two headed monster for the Cavs. Still... doesn't look like a guy who will become an outside shooting threat and though strength may help, not sure he will ever have good hands. Frankly, I think Hart may have overall more upside. If I can only do one, I'd rather lock up Hart at a much cheaper long term contract than throw big money at Jarrett.

Man people keep using Capela and yea, they're similar in what htey do, but capela has just been better the entire time. Just a little better at everything. Better shot blocking rate, better offensive rebounding rate. All of the advanced stats, in turn, favor Capela (and again, have for years).

The one area you can confidently say Allen is better is FT shooting, which makes it easier to play him late in games.

But still....the Cavs need to be strong in how much they're willing to pay for him.

How?? If some other team offers him 5 years and 125 million do the Cavs just say goodbye we will spend the money elsewhere?? On what? No free agent is coming here unless we way overpay, which is the same thing we'd be doing for Allen.
I'm not saying he's worth it, but he holds all the cards. The only thing in our favor is that teams seem to placing an ever decreasing value on the center position.
