JEREMIAH OWUSU-KORAMOAH

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I love JOK (have his jersey and money on him to win DROY), but credit to Malik McDowell for what he's done in the trenches. I watched him today and the attention he requires has allowed our stud Ends to be even more effective.

Any guess as to what his snap count was? I found myself wondering where he was on a bunch of snaps. I really hope it was just the whiskey.....

I bet him too. Got it at 15/1 and wish I would have put down more.

Malik has as much to do with the defense as JOK, he has been unbelievable so far this season. especially the last 2 seasons. Imagine if he had been in the NFL the last 4 years? ow

I'd say that so far to date Owusu has definitely been a better Jabril Peppers than Jabrill Peppers has ever been in the last 4 years. I'm not saying Peppers is bad, but JOK just looks like he's seeing 2 seconds ahead into the future when he's playing on the field, while Jabrill needs a good runway in order to take off.

JOK has not been playing a rover position at all though. He has been playing traditional OLB. Off ball LB, or what ever you want to call the position.

Dont get me wrong, JOK has been playing amazing, just really cant compare Jabrill to Jok.

Honestly Harrison has been playing in box safety when we go to the dime, that is the player to compare. And for the record, Delpit took over the in the box safety on dime packages when Harrison got concussed. That said, both have been playing better than Jabrill, but I wonder how Jabrill would do in this deffense. It is kind of made for his skillset and was the way he should have been used.

Not trading back for him, love Harrison and Delpit, and next year when we use LeCounte when Harrison leaves.

Does seem like Harrison is headed for greener pastures after this season. By greener, he's getting paid!

Delpit is ready to go as strong safety as long as he doesn't have a setback. At that point, I see Lacounte moving into more of what JJ3 has been doing in the back side for three safety packages, perhaps developing more in run support to be more well rounded.

Browns are going to save money somewhere, and it does look like another team will poach Harrison. At least they are developing a contingency.

They are used differently, for sure, and have developed differently, but in my oversimplified mind, I compare them because there was some discussion for both when they into the league about whether they should play line backers or safeties. I had always kind of hoped to see Peppers play more in a line backer role, instead of playing him 20 years deep like Gregg Williams liked to do in his rookie year.

This play went for a gain of one, he's a different breed.

We are still playing our safeties deep, its just now we are getting pressure and like what i called for after week 2, we are playing press man underneath a 2 deep zone. Dont give the WR a free release.

Back to Peppers. The biggest issue has been that Peppers wasnt a good safety. He was ok, but he needed to play the "rover" position and that position really only exists in dime packages in the NFL (see Harrison before he got hurt move into the box).

I know JOK was supposed to be our rover, but he is playing a straight off ball OLB and just dominating. Instinctive, sure tackler and holy shit that speed. JOK has 2 skills so far that has made him so dominate. Both are done decisively and with sure tackling, one is how he can go underneath and slip blocks and blow up sweeps, off tackle and screens. The other is when he trails the play off ball, goes unblocked behind the line and gets to the ball carrier or qb behind the play. There is only one way to make that play, and that is to be decisive and fast.

I think we end up going to less dime packages and just keep JOK in the box more. When you have a player like JOK who might be faster than any of our safeties, calling it a dime is only semantics anyways.

First thing that happens is the d-line holds the o-line up, need to double at point of attack and Malik has just been dominating holding up 1-2 lineman every play.

Then the outside receiver there is supposed to block down on the safety or OLB whoever is there, something that DPJ is excellent at. But then JOK with his ridiculous speed and deciseveness meets the ball carrier at the LOS slips the WR block and makes the play.

JOK covers 8-10 yards when the RB covers 6-7 and that is why it is essentially no gain.
