Trae Young was trash for a full like 3 months last year. I'm not going to worry about Garland much unless he shows no improvement throughout the entire season. And Garland isn't even getting the same # of reps to get himself acclimated to the speed/[ace/spacing of the NBA.

Beilein has said it repeatedly that the young guys are not used to playing in a system instead of the offense going through them all the time. Everyone is adjusting right now. Collin doesn't look quite as good, Cedi isn't being used much, Porter isn't scoring. The younger guys haven't adjusted as well as the vets, but I think it is going to pay off long term because there will not be as many bad habits and losing strategies to break in the future.

Agree none of the young guys have been in any thing resembling a system. Two of them barely played college. Give it time. Belein was the right hire for this team. This year and probably next is garlands, porter and sextons “college”

The big question is do we see growth in various areas throughout the season. If so, that's a positive. We are already seeing a big overall difference in defensive play. They still are having lapses, but the effort and willingness is there.

Even many of our vets haven't played in a system or played in one for awhile. We never had much of a system before LeBron returned or after he did. This is the first time where roles are beginning to be defined. It doesn't happen overnight.

Beilein has a great approach to all this, beginning with basic concepts and having the patience to allow the players to grow and gradually master those concepts before introducing the next concept. It will take time, but I think most of the young players will see growth because of it and, at worst, become solid rotational guys. A few could be much more than that as they grow.

It's hard to watch when RJ Barrett is getting 35min a game and putting up volume numbers, but I also think it is the right approach.

“Welcome to the NBA,” Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said on the Cavs’ play. “I wouldn’t be able to gauge a lot of the other teams because we didn’t play them in the preseason, but I can’t imagine a more improved team in a month.”
“Excellent coaching, excellent playing, all the good stuff,” Stevens said. “They’re playing together. They make it really hard to guard. They go downhill at your chest and make it tough. Hats off to Cleveland.”
“(Boston) moved the ball the way Cleveland is going to move the ball,” Beilein said. “The ball does not stick; they hit the next open man. When we’re doing that as a team, we’re a much better team. And we’re trying like crazy to get that done, and it’s baby steps.”

Brad Stevens giving very good compliments towards Beilein and staff...

.... that doesn't look good for the "Beilein is an awful hire and I hate him!" crowd.

Sure it does! We all know that Brad Stevens is actually Beilein's love child from a secret tryst with an ABA cheer leader back in 1975 and that "Ball Movement" is a code word for conspiracy and cover up. Do I even have to explain was "Downhill at your chest" really means?

Wow... you're completely right. How could I have been so miopic?

I apologize... FIRE BEILEIN!!

We had no ability yo pick Barrett and despite his numbers, the Knicks have a worse record than we do. We've scored more points as a team than the Knicks.

Beilein is just a very good coach. Has a great basketball mind. Love his approach.

He coaches hard, demands a lot...but it seems he also has an ability to still get his players to stand by him and buy in. Even if they aren't always happy with his methodology. Especially vets that have been stars/won titles. But I think he has a unique ability to kind of thread the needle between being too tough( Skiles, Boylan, Thibs, etc) and being too lackadaisical and letting the inmates run the asylum so to speak (Lue).

Able to delegate---did a good job putting Bickerstaff in charge of the D. Has put together a very talented coaching staff.

Works well with Altman. They have developed a true partnership and are on the same page.

Honestly, despite being 2-5, this team has been very watchable. They compete hard. Totally different from last year. Our schedule has been kinda tough early on too--which is another reason I'm not surprised Garland is struggling early on.

Besides the game against the Magic(who are built to bother guards on the interior and they have a lot of length and athleticism)-- the other 4 losses are to teams with a current total record of 20-9. The Magic are 2-6, but they were a playoff team last year and are better than 2-6 for sure.

I'm confident Beilein was a good hire, and I'm already convinced he's clearly the best coach we've ever had under Gilbert.

RJ Barrett is trash anyways.
PGs take more time to develop. Barrett has a lot of red flags, and his hame is ugly as hell.

I wasn't lamenting Barrett, I just know a lot of people want the ball to be in Garlands hands with the green light.

I think he would probably look better than Barrett in that instance allowed to make mistakes and able to get in rhythm at his own pace.

I still think this pays off and if he is reall a. Deadly shooter he needs to learn to play off the ball

Probably best since Fratello, not that that is a great list to compete against.

I love watching them play. I know they won't win a lot early, but they fight and don't give up. In the past when the Celtics would build a 9 point lead things would just spiral further out of control. Even their 10+point losses only got out of reach in the 4th quarter. They managed to cut the lead of the Bucks from 11 to 5 with 9 minutes left. Within 4 of the Mavs to start the 4th as things unraveled. I think some of those situations, like the 2nd Quarter against the Bucks that had them fall into a hole, will be gradually corrected throughout the year as the team grows.

They are playing good teams and making it a game with them. Entertaining to watch. I'd much rather watch them than the Browns right now, just being honest.

Yep. And hopefully Beilein will find a couple bench lineups that don't just booked points.
