Kareem Hunt: One Pissed Off Runner!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm still trying to process him telling the cop he would fail a drug test and the cop then letting him get in the car and drive away. Does that happen often do you think?

Depending on the drug test, substances can be detected weeks afterward.

Saying he might fail a test doesn't necessarily mean he was impaired at that moment.

And given that the police report did not note a cannabis smoking instrument, nor a drink with alcohol in it, it is reasonable to assume that the cop felt he wasn't impaired.

It would be very odd for the policeman to release him if he thought he would be a danger to himself and others.

Even if he is a big Browns fan. It would mean his ass if Hunt ended up hurting someone.

Well I am wrong, but man TMZ uncovers everything.

His time with the Browns has probably come to an end. Wont blame the Browns now for cutting ties.

Honest opinion what has changed from what you initially thought?

There was no drink found and no device found to smoke anything. Futhermore he wasnt charged with driving under the influence of anything.

He isnt in the drug program (according to posters here), which means a positive test by the NFL would be 2 games.

Is he a smart man, no. But mostly sounds like he needs help more than anything.

Yeah the dude is a moron but I don't see why this means the Browns should cut him or anything like that. If anything, it probably means we can re-sign him for cheap :conf (11):

If it were my choice I’d agree with you.

But it’s hard for me to imagine a new regime with a first time head coach and GM who are preaching accountability letting their first move be to...let a guy with a checkered past get away with something.

To me, what it boils down to is trust. Hunt is clearly a guy that teams can't trust. He got cut from his previous team because he lied about the nature of the trouble he was in. We have audio of him lying to a cop, likely repeatedly (does anyone actually believe the weed was his brother's when, moments later, Hunt says he wouldn't pass a drug test?). No doubt he lied to the Browns as well shortly after the incident but before the audio was released.

This is a guy who lost out on a lucrative long-term contract and was suspended eight games because of issues related to alcohol who is speeding around Cleveland with weed and an open container in his car. He also happens to play one of the most replaceable positions in the NFL. I'm just not convinced he has learned anything from the previous incidents, and I don't think the Browns should be rostering a back-up RB who is a constant threat to be suspended.

The bottom line is that, if Nick Chubb were to get hurt, I just don't trust Hunt to be the guy replacing him. I think we're better off letting another team attempt to rehab him and drafting a RB we can actually rely on.

I'm fine with re-signing him for cheap.

If we are relying on him to be the primary backup, then that's dooming the Browns to failure. Additionally, I do understand that a backup that is drafted/signed will likely not be as talented as Hunt. But, if I can get a less talented RB on the field 100% of the time over Hunt being on the field 50% of the time, I'm going to take the other guy.

Admitting he would fail a drug test, the weed was found in a back pack with Kareems name on it.

The vodka does nothing to me, if it was in the trunk instead of back seat, complete non issue on transport, could care less about that.

I think weed should be legal, so I am not saying he is a bad person, my opinion on him not getting cut has changed.

If It were up to me, you keep him. This is a perfect backup, will make slightly above league min, and backups rb's typically are just ok, with Hunt, you have a chance at a great backup RB, if you cant count on him, no harm, your 3rd rb would have been your backup.

Some team, with stability, will offer him a good deal and we need to let him go.

Respectfully, I wholly disagree.

There are times where a person's actions should prompt discipline in order to put them back on track... This just feels different. He may need real help.

The organization needs to exhaust some resources in counseling, mental health treatment, and substance abuse before they just cut bait and give up on Kareem, the human being (football aside).

Delonte West needs to serve as a sad example of what happens when people around you conflate mental illness with a bad attitude. Dismissing mental illness as athletes who "just don't get it," is - at best - an oversimplification of what we're witnessing.

Are we sure that the Cavs didn't actually try to do the right thing with Delonte, and that the Browns didn't offer counseling, etc., for Hunt? My guess is that both teams likely tried to help, and the player just failed on their own.

I think nothing short of commitment would have helped poor Delonte.

He has to have schizophrenia or something as serious.

The question then becomes how much responsibility does an employer have for the mental health of their employee.

I think that should be the plan. Prepare to find another RB for the #3 just in case Hunt can't play and find someone you can stash on the practice squad that they can evaluate to the #3 spot if he is suspended for a long time. Basically find guys that are better than Hillard and D'Ernest Johnson.

Who know how the new group will want to structure the 53 man roster. I bet we won't have 5 TEs next season. Maybe they will keep 4 RBs.
