We dont needs a star piece. Someone who can actually shoot imo.
The only players that matter in the playoffs are stars. It's all you can count on with any sort of reliability

This is what happens when you don't try to get him going early
I doubt but if this is true then it's no one's fault that his offensive rythm is entirely dependent on being spoonfed looks at the start of each game.

Post players need to be given the ball though. Shaq didn't handle the ball himself.

Trading Love we would lose continuity + rebounding but we gain quite a bit

1. You get a long wing defender that can make Durant work. That will help Lebron

2. You get another ball handler that can create on his own. He's even a better 3 point shooter than Love and I would guess he doesn't get anywhere near the open looks he would get here. That would take pressure off Kyrie/Lebron

3. In the series against us PG was averaging 43 minutes a game. Love is only averaging 33 in the finals. 7-10 extra minutes a game in the finals with a star is huge.

4. I think PG is going to age better than Love. That might extend our window a bit.

5. With Lebron at the 4 we are much more athletic team.

This is not Love's fault but we're a team with limited assets and so far it looks like we have a lot of ground to cover. If Cavs don't make this series competitive I don't think Love will be on this team next year. It makes me sad but it is what it is.
Our window begins and ends with LeBron, adding George won't change that.

George would help in a lot of areas, but it won't help us with beating this Warriors team. Now, if we added George and kept our big 3, I could see it.

When your stretch 4 goes 1-9 from the field in the biggest game of the season thats not a good look. I don't care what the other numbers look like when I see that. At least when Kyrie was having bad games he was still shooting 40% and averaging 21.5ppg.

Also, sure he had 6 steals and a couple blocks, but these lazy/late closeouts he has are a killer on the defensive end. Many times the shooter has already released the ball by the time he gets a hand in the air. He's just not quick enough to match up again GS.

Hate to break it to you all, but Kevin won't be back next year.

Lets say this did happen, would we have the peices to get Melo, that is a team that could line up well.

Irving
PG
LJ
Melo

Its surely not preferable, but that's like saying fuck chainsaws as a tool if I have to make sure to pick it up by the handle rather than the blade

It isn't perfect, but do you want to chop down trees?

Some sort of combination of JR shump and frye. Melos salary after the trade kicker is about 30M. It's gonna be hard to convince New York to take shump and JR back. And I doubt there's many 3rd teams lining up to take JR off our hands. He didn't see any action when he was a free agent.

I don't think the gap is as big as everyone is thinking despite it being 0-3. Lebron/Love were the only ones to show up at the Oracle. Last night Lebron/Kyrie were great but we were out rebounded and shot 27% from 3 while the Warriors shot 48.5% from 3. It took a collapse late for them to win that game.

I do think PG would make the difference. PG is not only a better player than Love he would be playing 7-10 more minutes a game than Love.

I dunno, George for Love adds another creator. Love relies on others for his shot, George can create when LBJ sits.
I believe the team would be better off (and I love me some Love) in this scenario.

I would Love PG on this team and would trade anyone not named Lebron James for him. Doubt it happens, though.

It is. they have to be perfect to beat this team. they need another creator who can allow LBJ time to rest. They teams are close when LBJ and KI are rested. You cant expect that over the course of a game where they are basically playing every minute at full capacity.
In a vaccum it works, in reality it doesn't.

Not even just creating his own shot. He's a better defender. He's a quicker defender, especially with the amount of screens GS sets. His feet are just quicker and that's huge. Love has played decent defense in the paint, but not when he has to fight through or around screens and make up ground on his player.

Like it or not, the team has to be tailored to beat Golden State and not worry about matchups with the rest of the NBA. We have LeBron James and we are basically a lock for the next 3 or 4 years to make it to the Finals. Golden State is the alpha dog and we need to adjust to matching up with them. You do that by adding quickness, shot creators, and people who can guard multiple positions.

Even if it's trading one star for another star, that move would make us better. Have to start somewhere.

NYC receive
Shumpert, Frye, RJ, Cedi

Indiana receives
Kevin Love, 2021 pick

CLE receives
Melo, Paul George

It works. Knicks can break up our scraps to trade easier. Cedi gives them a young SF.
