I like Collins, but an argument can be made that he’s proven even less than Zizic at this point in 2 NBA seasons.

That’s all I’m saying.

Young team like us giving up Love and young talent in the same deal.

Zizic shouldn’t be a deal breaker either way. You can always remove him and give Portland back the two 2nd founders they owe us in 2021 & 2023.

Collins has one thing Zizic doesn’t have, which is athleticism. Collins has the makings of a nice stretch-4, with the ability to play some center too.

We traded those in the deal to get Kevin Porter Jr.

I think taking back Turner helps them out. I don’t know that we owe them any assets outside of Love.

I do like Collins fit on this team, though.

Oops, my bad.

Trying to not read into Frye’s post too much but he and Kevin are super tight.

If he’s making tweets like that, I can’t imagine that he doesn’t have Kevin’s blessing to do it.

Portland is a weird match, because I’m just not sure they would be willing to part with the one player on their roster that would make a trade totally worth it for the Cavs in Zach Collins.

Sure, Nurkic is alright. Yes, Little and Simons have some developmental intrigue. They are also free to deal any future 1sts.

The deal I would shoot for would be Love for Turner, Collins, and a 2020 1st

I might even settle for just Turner and Collins.

If they want to expand the deal to include us taking on another deal(Myers Leonard or Harkless) for JR so that they can nit bleed too much in the Tax, I would ask for Collins and two 1sts, but would settle for Collins and a 2022 1st with top6 protection

Zach Collins is the perfect fit for Beilein. Hes a big who has both a 3 point shot and shot blocking potential. Played 17 MPG for Blazers and averaged .9 BPG which would have led our team last year. Stepped it up even more in 17 MPG in 16 playoff games he averaged 1.4 BPG. Not sure how we would match contracts with them though. Also have Little and Simmons as young players. Little is a high end defensive prospect but hes extremely raw on offense. Simmons really has no fit here if the Cavs plan on developing Garland, Sexton, Porter Jr, and Windler.

Gilbert also really liked Collins coming out of Gonzaga.

If I recall, even though the Cavs were not really in a position to draft him, Gilbert either had Collins workout for him or had a meeting with him.

Frye's tweet is successful on two levels:

1. It reminds the NBA that Kevin Love has tremendous value when healthy. Without a doubt my biggest hurdle in getting behind a Love trade in the past calendar year is "selling low". The Cavs tanked 2/3rds of the year which expedited the surgery. Terrible time to shop Love, if you are a believer in "selling high".

2. As a Portland native, Frye is speaking the truth. Love back in the Pacific Northwest really is good for Portland hoping to make a run at the wide open Western Conference. It's also good for Kevin personally.

..all that said, and most glaring in my mind, is that Kevin Love will go down as one of the top ten most important Cavaliers players of all time... and a few months into Love on the team, outside journalists and power players began manipulating the narrative for Kevin to move on elsewhere. There were several seasons he was rumored to want out of Cleveland when a free agent, and trade scenarios flooded the internet. At times he was underappreciated in Cleveland, and Cavs fans contributed to all the trade scenarios. When it's all said and done, Love deserved a lot more appreciation from the fan base for signing on twice when - sorry haters - he was a lot better than most fans gave him credit for being...

...for five whole seasons.
It really is a damning body of work on the armchair GMs that he was this level of a player for the organization and very underappreciated.

Sure, Keys. I understand that point... and we really must appreciate the teammate he’s been and how he’s embraced Cleveland.

But we also must recognize that he’s going to be 31 this season and a true “sell high” scenario is unlikely to happen again with Love.

He is definitely a 31 year old power forward. It would be wise to see comparable bigs at that age without a major injury. It could go either way, depending on his health. However, look at the history captured in this thread... there was always a reason for the haters to be haters and want him traded, month after month, news release after news release.

I personally believe one year playing point forward with Beilein would raise his draft value, provided he stays relatively healthy. This is the perfect coach for Kevin Love.

Frye’s tweet and his close ties to Love may equate to a subtle trade demand, that being a suggestion that the franchise move him. I totally get it because he probably doesn’t want to spend his last few good years playing on a rebuilding team, that is more concerned with protecting their draft position than winning. What competitor would want that?

Portland may well have interest in both Love and JR Smith, given the wide open nature of the west & a desire to reduce their tax burden. There is a clear opening in the west for a team to step up and seize the role of favorite from the Warriors.

For the Cavs, acquiring a respected veteran, like Evan Turner, would be beneficial for the young guys. More importantly, Collins could become a key piece and help accelerate the rebuild. We should also be able to get a 1st round pick or young player out of the deal.

I really like Love - I would prefer to keep him to help this young team. And Beilein’s staff will make Love a better fit to the team in my opinion. Having a big guy who can shoot, rebound, post, be able to move without the ball, using the elbow - staff will love to utilize Love.

I agree with that. Plus, at the deadline this season, we’re past the point of free agency and he’s likely one of very few All-Stars to be available at the deadline.

If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. You don’t force it as we’re going to be well under the cap even with his contract (beyond this season). However, we’re in no position to turn down the right deal if it presents itself.
