Has any team shown interest in Love and that contract?

Nothing concrete is known. What we do know is, with the injuries to KD & Klay, the Western Conference is now wide open & ripe for the taking. We already saw the Lakers make an aggressive trade for AD and the Jazz make an aggressive move for Mike Conley. I expect that we will see some more aggressive moves, from the likes of Houston, OKC, Portland, and the LA Clippers, as the teams out West jockey for position.

In the East, Boston is flush with cap space, with Kyrie & Horford leaving, and they’re looking to make moves. Charlotte is another team looking to make moves, in the hopes of re-signing Mike Conley.

Any of those teams could make a strong play for Love. There is going to be some silly money flying around in the coming weeks and Kevin Love’s contract won’t look quite so outlandish then. I really believe this summer is the time to move Love, as his value is only going to further depreciate as he continues to age.

ive long felt that portland would be the perfect landing spot to love. That team desperately needs another 2nd/3rd star that can help bring the pressure off of Dame. That said Portland would pretty much have to give up every young asset they have to make anything work. While I would gladly take Collins, he just isnt good enough to be the primary peice coming back to the cavs. I got it the kid is still young (going to be 22 in November), but so for in 2 years he has done absolutely nothing of note, other than he holds on to the potential to be a great defender.

last year in 77 games (17.5 minutes a game), he averaged 6.6 points and 4.2 boards. He hits 33% of his 3 points at 1.6 a game. If i had the time I would go through and see how he did after Nuric got injured, but i do know his role on the team didnt change that much. Maybe he is primed for a break out year 3, but at this point I feel like if he was something super special he would be better than splitting the 3rd/4th big man role.

While I agree we need to be in asset mode, I just don't think you can move Love unless you get a great return. I think Love is worth more to the Cav's now then some youngish players who only have role player upside or a late round 1st round pick. With a new new coach, 3 new young players coming in, I think Love can be a very valuable locker room / veteran presence that can show the young guys what it takes to be successful in the NBA. Outside of that, he is still one of the best big men in the game when healthy, and I think with the Beilein's system and all with all the young guys being able to shoot, he is going to make the team fun to watch, and help the young guys play the game the right way on the court.

So here's the thing regarding Kevin Love's contract....

Sure, there are 4 years left on it. Something like $28.9 million, $31.2 million, $31.2 million, and $28.9 million. That's $120.2 million. He's 30 years old and a 5 time All Star.

Now, it's being reported that Dallas is very interested in Al Horford...

The rumored "deal" being floated around when free agency opens is roughly 4 years, $112 million, from multiple sources, including Windhorst. Horford is already 33 years old.

So, with people spending this way, even on veterans, can we truly say that Love's contract is that awful? I certainly don't think it's anything that would keep a team coveting his talent from trading for him--at least not now with the league open again.

He'd easily get his current contract as a free agent.

Love's contract is easily one of the best values in the league compared to Paul, Wiggins, Wall and soon to be Horford

I could easily see him getting moved in the next month and Portland looks the most realistic option but Boston wouldn't surprise me either

The last 3 seasons the team with the 11th pick has had 36 wins during the regular season. The Cavs had 19 wins this past season and I have to think, with a healthy Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, & John Henson, they can push towards or surpass 36 wins.

Additionally, the new draft lottery also levels the playing field and makes it easier for teams to claim a top 4 pick, as the Lakers did from 11th spot recently. It’s not far-fetched at all to think the Cavs could lose that pick to Atlanta.

I think this is incredibly unlikely. 10% chance at best, which to me qualifies as far-fetched, especially given the control we exert over late season win additions (as an organization).

Garland and Sexton will be one of the worst defensive backcourts in the league......and I can't imagine the plan isn't to start them. We invested too much draft capital and too many coaching staff dollars to not allow the young guys to play.....especially system fits.

That matters because any gains we get from veteran health are going to be erased by minutes increases (on a positional basis) to guys who are rookies (Garland, Windler, Porter). Maybe Porter doesn't play as much but given JB's system, I'd be floored if Garland and Windler both don't log heavier rookie minutes.

Rookies aside, the guys you have mentioned, are nowhere near 17 wins at this point in their career. If you're being incredibly generous, maybe you could talk me in to half that.....which in a best case scenario still lands us in top 5 odds, if it is similar year to last.....which guarantees we keep the pick.

If Love had played the majority of the season last year his contract would be looked at completely differently.

Alas, he went down with a significant injury and missed a ton of games, as he does more often than not. If he had the ability to stay healthy his contract would be perfectly reasonable, but he just can't. Being an aging, slow, ground-bound big exacerbates the problem, even if he's still a very good player with a unique skillset when healthy.

I really don't expect the Cavs to be able to trade him for the kind of package most of us are looking for.

I don't know.... as soon as Horford signs his contract, I think Love's contract starts looking quite tolerable. I think we'll have a market for him before the season.

I also think there is some momentum in the front office to move him, and I don't think Channing Frye's twitter comments are entirely random.

Zack Collins, Nasir Little, Evan Turner for Kevin Love. Don't even need any picks. Cavs have been had an eye for Collins. I always felt that POR drafted him knowing that there could be a Love deal down the road. Channing Frye wouldn't Tweet that without Love at least knowing what's up. He even said he talked to some friends and you know that Kevin Love was one of those friends. This deal has potential to work out for us like the Paul George trade worked out for IND. Reminder that there were no picks involved in that deal. IF POR is willing to do this with those 3 players for Love then we should jump on it.

Also Kevin Love would look great in that Blazers uniform playing in Terry Stotts system. I could see them winning a title if they make this deal.

With all the Love trade chatter Love probably asked his buddy Channing to throw something out there to let the powers that be know "hey if you are going to trade me,,I'd l would really like to go to Portland."
His contract compared to some that are about to be signed isn't that out of line,,,and I think some of these teams are so giddy to have a chance at a title,,they may have a bit of amnesia on the injury front. Could be a perfect storm for the cavs and someone may throw them a deal they can't refuse.
You could really put together a blockbuster deal if you add JR's contract to the mix.

Count me out on wanting Little. Three rookies is enough to incorporate. Something like this would work for me, though.

Portland gets: Kevin Love
Cleveland gets: Bad contract, Zach Collins, 2020 top-ten protected first, and a 2022 top-ten protected first.

Does Love really need Frye to make LeBron-esque agenda Twitter comments for the Cavs to trade him? From all appearances, he has a great relationship with Koby and the front office and I can't imagine that he couldn't be transparent about a trade request, including desired destination(s).

If anything, as some have suggested, I see Frye's comments being directed at other organizations to help boost Love's value.
