Question, if we let the contracts for Love, and Le Vert expire would we have 40 million to spend at free agency?

No. If we let everyones contract expire and decline options the most we can have is around 12M. Garlands deal starts up next year and that’s 33M.

Definitely not $40! Wojo and Windhorst was on NBA TV a couple of weeks ago (separate occasions) and they both said “if the Cavs handle their salaries and contracts the right way this summer they could have $22-25 million in cap space”

no. thats the problem. thats why the cavs need to trade one of them.

DG's max contract starts next season. So a good chunk of that LeVert/Love space is going to DG.

so 22-25 isnt goign to happen unless they are trading out players with draft picks after the season.

the best they could get if they let love and levert walk, and cut Windler, Brobley(which wont happen), and Diakate is 19 million based on a 134 million cap. However at 19 million a year that's at best midgrade talent (MLE is going to be 11-12).

Basically its not worth it to try to go that low. Cavs need to trade Love or Lavert(most likely) for assests that they can use next year, then re-sign Love to a team friendly contract.

Zack Lowe just reported that the Cavs are NOT looking at trading LaVert before the deadline.

My napkin calculations:

Guaranteed contracts for next season = $104,425,121
- Mitchell, JA, DG, Rubio, Wade
- Cedi [~partially guaranteed]

Options they'll likely pick up = $17,803,435
- Mobley, Okoro

Total = $122,228,556

I don't know what they'll do with Stevens. He has a team option for $1,930,681, if they decline it.. that leaves about ~$11,771,444 left if the cap is $134 million.

Our roster going into the season would look like:

DG, Rubio
Mitchell
Okoro, Cedi
Mobley, Wade
JA

Kinda thin. So yeah, that doesn't leave much left to work with. They will need to go with sign and trades or get some picks to replenish depth eventually.

Only way we have max money is doing a sign and trade with Allen. That’ll open around 32M. And moving okoro could get them to like 40. Unlikely but we could have money if a superstar wanted to come here.

Worth noting this almost exactly matches the MLE. So we could sign LeVert to a 2-year $22M contract or something similar. Sign Cedi to a 2-year $15M contract or something similar, Sign Love at something above Vet min (2 year, $7M?) -- and then we would still have an MLE at $11M.

I think we are not going to sign anybody with Cap space next year -- there's no benefit unless it is much bigger than the MLE.

Even if we had $40 million in cap space, There's no UFA worth signing next season.
Unless you want to sign Kyrie. :beee:

Love will have to show a lot late season to warrant a 2 year contract. Honestly, know ones knows if he even wants to play another year at the limited game time he is given
