Did Koby Altman nail the rebuild?

Who turned their team around faster than 3 years after losing a top 5 guy for nothing? Oh nobody? Ok.

3 years is nothing. Sacramento has been rebuilding for over a decade.

Memphis is pretty close I guess, but they have been luckier than us and drafted better late and had more picks than we did because they were able to trade their stars instead of just losing them.
And Sac STILL has more talent than us! And is the better team

The quote in a vacuum I could see as harmless, but when adding the context of his tantrum on the court, reported shouting matches with Koby, undercutting coaches and teammates through the media, sitting out so many games, etc it looks much worse to me.
I’m more than comfortable assigning buck stops here accountability to Koby for KPJ, Windler, Drummond(both the trade and the handling) as well as the ultimate outcome of the main lotto picks in how they turn out individually and as collective long term roster fits.

I think its also totally fair for fans to assume and even have a strong amount of certainty that the Kyrie trade, the ability/inability to trade the Nets pick in spring of 2018, and the Love extension are things that were not totally in his control/final say so.

I think there is balance to be struck here and don’t see people claiming that all bad or questionable Koby decisions were out of his hands.

Do they? Other than Fox/Hali their team is p garb. Holmes is good but he will get priced out of their range
Last time I looked Sac had 31 wins to the Cavs’ 22! And Bagley is better than any front court player we have (except maybe Nance) and let’s not forget Barnes, Hield, Harkless and Whiteside.

Wouldn’t that make sense? Heild was a 2016 top6 pick and Fox a 2017 top5 pick. So they had those two in place before our rebuild even began. From the time we grabbed Sexton, Garland, and Okoro, they’ve added Bagley and Haliburton.

Their rebuild (which is really just a rebuild of a previous rebuild attempt) is a few years ahead of ours. They’d be in better shape if they hadn’t had botched the Bogdanovic restricted free agency last summer. Not to mention, they drafted Bagley ahead of Luka lol.

I don't disagree, and this right here is why I fear the Cavs will stay bad for a long time. The three decisions you listed that had Dan's fingerprints all over them were also the three biggest decisions this franchise has had to make since Kyrie Irving asked for a trade.

We just have to hope that he’s stepping a little further into the background and/or he has actually learned from those and some of his earlier mistakes. I think some of his rashness is dus to hot/crazy girlfriend syndrome. With the hot, crazy girlfriend in LA and not coming back, hopefully his impulsiveness will be curtailed and he will let other people make the decisions.

I've also seen people fear that Dan will also hand the reins to Nick, but I seriously doubt that he gets chosen over the more able-bodied heirs.

ALL team owners have final say if it was your money you would have any big decision run by you stop knocking the man who is one of the few that has pump money into this city and basketball team..this city was starting to be a run down town till he invested his money and knowhow to turn it around.

Kings are the definition of fringe playoff mediocrity. They are not going anywhere, without a better system and buy in, because they have no true first options. The Cavs need to hit on this pick, or be faced with needing to make some moves. They also need to keep Sexton at all costs, not use him to get different ancillary players with less impact or they could face a similar fate.

One thing that I think is going to play a factor next yr. Teams will want to take advantage of the return of fans and do their best to be competitive (well except ORL and maybe OKC). This upcoming crop of rookies maybe the difference in the standings, depending on which ones can make an immediate impact.

We really need some good juju in this lottery.

I don't get why reporters would question Altman's W-L record. It's like saying Mike Brown was a good coach because of his W-L record. It's inaccurate.

You can. Miami did it. SAS still has it. Even GSW has a recently built one. It can be done but requires more people skills than I or Koby have.

It also requires very precise drafting and talent acquisition with a focus on high character guys. We've done some of that (sexland, okoro, nance). Once you've got the cultural pieces in place, you can try to get the more volatile types surrounded by the right kinda people. Historical examples include SJax with SA, MWP in LAL, and even Chriss in GS.

Imo Koby swung too early with that for players like KPJ and maybe Drummond. Problem is Love was already here and will continue to be...and they seem to view him as a core veteran leader which is asinine. Let LNJ do that.

I think you're aiming a bit low here. The teams with the beat cultures are the teams with the best owners. They're usually the guys that you've never heard of that hire the right people to do the work they were hired to do well. Rarely do you hear of good owners making headlines for anything. We aren't that lucky.

Bagley is awful. He hasn't been good since he has wcj and coach k holding his hands in the zone.

Barnes ill give you but i take most of our guys over hields terrible contract, worse drummond and a guy who got kicked off the knicks last year
