As a basketball fan I'm actually happy we traded him to Utah. I think he's going to be a long term piece for them, I expect he'll have a lot of success. I like when good players end up in good situations and are able to play their best ball.
The Jazz might actually pretty good, I'm starting to wonder if this hot start is sustainable for them lol.
You give the 2-3 role players you need to give to get a top 20 player in his prime that you have under contract for several years while you’re in contention.
There are very few guys in the league that can make the full gamut of plays Mitchell made in game 1 alone.
The way he splits the defense, gets to the hoop, makes plays for other guys, finishes, leads, hits outside shots, and gets to the line is a very rare combination.
Three quarters does not a dollar make. Happy as hell to have him after watching that first game. He wowed the shit out of me like LeBron used to 4-5 times.
Shit game for Lauri.
They'll be in the hunt as much as anyone for the #1 pick.
Utah's 3-0 start is fools gold.
1. Denver has two players shaking off a ton of rust in Murray and MPJ. Not to mention losing Monte Morris.
2. Minnesota made a major trade and are trying to figure things out.
3. NO lost Ingram and Zion and still almost came back and won.
I won't even count the Rockets loss since Utah were coming off of OT the previous night.
I think the saying for the NBA is 4 quarters doesn't equal a dollar. I tend to agree with that but when you look at the possible trajectory of Markkanen and Sexton, I'm not sure we just gave up 4 quarters. Markkanen might be a 75 cent piece (let just say that exists for the example), Sexton might be a 50 cent or possibly a 75 cent piece, then Ochai Agbaji and the 3 first round picks has considerable value that probably gets you another solid 75 cent piece kind of player via trade.
Mitchell might end up being worth that $2+ in value but if we don't have solid depth behind our top 4 it might not look as good. I think only time will tell.
I would love to see people answer this at the end of the season. Mitchell is superstar but he isn't the kind of player Cavs were missing last season.
That team is going to be better than lot of people thought.
It is not going to be this good. Utah got red hot from three to start the season. It also has lot of new guys and a rookie coach with his playbook not being too familiar for opponents. Teams might have some trouble at this point figuring things out. Their talent pool for a quick rebuild is ok, though.
Things that will be on their side if there's going to e a play-ins push
- Having Hardy as the coach. He is a protegee of pop so things gonna be good and there will be development
- Their rookie big Kessler seems legit rookie team candidate.
- Collin is just going to get more minutes and more chances to impact the better game condition he will get into. He has tools to win games if there's a need.
- Their bench is deep enough to overpower some other benches.
- Lauri Markkanen
Their starting line-up is not good enough though in a long run to get massive win streaks. If the shooting is not red hot, the losses might pile on.
Depending on how Ainge is maneuvering with trading out pieces, this current Jazz team will be either in the play ins or one of the first teams out of it. I don't think its gonna be bottom three in the west even if Ainge trades out more veterans. Jazz might get enough wins before that. And its ok for them. There was no plan to supertank. With their 15 1st round picks and cap room, and with Collin, Lauri, Kessler, Vanderbilt, it might become season or two rebuild with good rookies and added talent via trades and FA. It might be sooner than later that team is near current Cavs level.
You clearly missed the Denzel Valentine showSo outside of Garland, the Cavs had another player that could create for himself and others at a high level and score on all three levels? If they did, I guess I missed him the entire season.
notedThey had three road games in four nights including two overtimes, totally expected.
