Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is my real talk of the night: We do not have a better fitting roster than what Utah had w/ Mitchell. In fact, it's not even in the ballpark. We're trying to make two non-shooting 7 footers work, and I'll be honest, there is a ceiling on that and it's not title contending. I love both guys too, so that sucks. So either Mobley finds a 3 point shot next summer, or Allen needs to be on the bock next February.

But at the same time, we're ALSO trying to make two 6'3 and under guards work. This is not the best way to build a modern roster.

Ok, so back to the first point. Our roster isn't nearly as well balanced as that Utah roster and YET it IS a more talented roster. And while that Utah roster had a hard ceiling of 2nd round due to lack of top end talent, this roster is hard capped due to lack of balance and fit.

But here's the point: Utah was a top 4 seed how many years with that roster? Utah actually made the 2nd round how many times?

Right now, this team is, at best, a 1st round exit and in a fairly easy series for the opposing team.

The coaching is not maximizing the roster they've been given at all. At all.

I will restate my hottish take here though: If Mobley hasn't significantly improved his 3 point shooting by next season, Allen needs to be squarely on the block next February. There is only so far you can go w/ zero spacing from the 4 or 5, and it isn't any type of serious contention.

There's a rant.

Allen is probably the most tradeable member of this team, being an All-Star on a friendly contract.
But finding a spacing 4/5 for him when the time comes.... I'm skeptical there will be the right player there.

But you touched on the main thing that's hitting home. The balance of this team is ass. And JBB doesn't help it with the way he manages the game.
It takes me back to my new hot take: Koby Altman might just only be slightly better at team construction than Chris Grant.

And I don't mean that in a flattering way. The front office misses hard on wings. Misses on coaches. Gets a taste of success and moves damn near prematurely.
Windler over Keldon Johnson will haunt me forever. Allen as a replacement for Drummond for the minimal cost it was, was a win. Mobley was a win. But the bench is a mess. Giving Love all that money....

But with the two bigs being the best perimeter defenders.... is a L.
I thought the Cavs would be done w/savior ball post-LeBron. At least reasonably. It's always going to be a degree of that in NBA basketball. The lack of balance is going to sink expectations so hard.

There's way more players that shoot 3s playing the 5 today than you think. It's becoming an easier task to find one as the years go by.

Rich is right. No way you can play Mobley and Allen together when you don’t plan on getting the ball to them in any way except for the lob. We need a 4 much more than a 3, which we need as well. Okoro shoots 50% from 3 for a month and then refuses to shoot it. Go figure. So we have no 3 point shooters from 3 starters. Won’t work. They either won’t or can’t shoot the three. It’s a 3 point shooting league now. Dean or Love have to play the 4. Just might as well say forget any defense when Love is in though, so that sucks. Hurry up and release Dean to play. Quit being so cautious or you might as well check the season in.

The way we played tonight the 1942 Italian Navy would’ve sunk every one of our battleships.

I’m embarrassed to admit I actually watched Paula Jones “fight” Tonya Harding but not as embarrassed at the Cavaliers should be tonight.
The Littorio Class Battleships were sexy.

This is who we just lost against. Somebody gotta get fired today

I don’t think it’s a hot take. Now if Allen is really dominating smaller teams inside, then it’s different. Mobley has to get stronger to become a superstar, and he can. And I know he’s still pretty young, but I don’t see JA’s game changing at this point. This is who he is. He’s fortunate to be a 1-time All-Star. He’s a role player. Gets pushed around way too much to be anything more than that. I’d trade him for Myles Turner if we could lock Myles Turner up. But eventually, Mobley is going to have to either shoot 3’s or be the 5. He has to get stronger either way.

This is still a young team but because there are expectations this year, losses are so much less fun to watch! Why can't they just will themselves over teams they're better than every time?

We are regressing. The team is healthy. No more "if we had such and such" talk. We had "such and such" and we still couldn't beat the lowly KNICKS!

JBB still living off a great 10 game run to start the season. The squad is what, .500 after the first 10 games? Takes the team 3 quarters to even seem like they give a fuck about the game and it's fucking embarrassing.

Heat beat the Celtics.

By the All-star break, this team will be tied with Miami for the 6th seed in the East.

That gives them roughly two whole months to see if they can fall to the play-in .
