This is my real talk of the night: We do not have a better fitting roster than what Utah had w/ Mitchell. In fact, it's not even in the ballpark. We're trying to make two non-shooting 7 footers work, and I'll be honest, there is a ceiling on that and it's not title contending. I love both guys too, so that sucks. So either Mobley finds a 3 point shot next summer, or Allen needs to be on the bock next February.
But at the same time, we're ALSO trying to make two 6'3 and under guards work. This is not the best way to build a modern roster.
Ok, so back to the first point. Our roster isn't nearly as well balanced as that Utah roster and YET it IS a more talented roster. And while that Utah roster had a hard ceiling of 2nd round due to lack of top end talent, this roster is hard capped due to lack of balance and fit.
But here's the point: Utah was a top 4 seed how many years with that roster? Utah actually made the 2nd round how many times?
Right now, this team is, at best, a 1st round exit and in a fairly easy series for the opposing team.
The coaching is not maximizing the roster they've been given at all. At all.
I will restate my hottish take here though: If Mobley hasn't significantly improved his 3 point shooting by next season, Allen needs to be squarely on the block next February. There is only so far you can go w/ zero spacing from the 4 or 5, and it isn't any type of serious contention.
There's a rant.
