Mac vs PC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

at my job we have close to 6 of the 20' Apple Moniters, if you put one next to the other you can move the mouse over to the other screen, it just kinda knows its there, and we have 3 G5 processors, i dont use them much myself, PC's are cool, i have a dell notebook, and it works well for what i use it for. if i were to get something for video editing, music production and lots of multimedia stuff, i would without a doubt get a Mac, but if your getting one for simple programs and internet, there is really no need to get a Mac, because you wouldnt be using it to the full potential. and the price can be a little steeper.

PC Monitors do that too we have Dells at school that we use that for..

A Dell monitor is no comparison to an Apple one. Everything is clearer and more crisp on an Apple in my eyes. I designed on a Dell monitor for 6 months at my job, we recently got iMacs and set up the duel feature and there is a big difference in clarity.

You can use the duel feature on PC, but you need to upgrade your video card as well as buying an adapter. With a Mac, you don't need to upgrade anything.

You also have to spend $2500 just to get a MAC.

My Mac Mini was 700.

Mini's start at 599

IMac's start at 999

The only computer that cost 2500 is the G5 duel processor.

Why don't you tell us how much you CAN spend, and what you are looking to do with it. And this way we can narrow it down more for you.

Well lets see. Of course for the internet. Play on some poker sites. Id like to try online gaming. Im a big Zelda fan, and I like the medivel type games with swords and magic and stuff. My friend tells me Neverwinter Nights is really good. ANyone do online gaming here?

And also he tells me you can get a lot of free stuff on the net, music and games and stuff. I think at torrent sites? I dont really understand the torrent stuff.

ALso burn some DVDs. I dont think the new IMacs come with it, but I think you can add one to it. Of course Id only burn copies of DVDs I already have to make back-ups. ;)

My friend has offered to build me a solid PC for around $800. I saw the new IMacs are a little over $1000. Right now Im leaning towards the new IMacs, which I think are able to run Windows as well, if theres a PC game I wanna play.

I had an iMac back in the day when they were popular. I got it cuz it was "cute" (I had the teal color)... Turned out that it was NOT compatible with anything I TRIED to download. My mom spent like $1,300 for it. Then it just stopped working one day.

Thats what I have right now. 98 IMac. A friend gave it to me for free.

I agree that it isnt so great. I have Roadrunner, and it cant even keep up with that. I dont dare load the ESPN page, cuz it takes forever. Even loading pages on this site is a chore. It seems the new IMacs are far better.

Oh and Nicky I can see why you get "excited" when you're on Infante's computer...

When I started working at my new school this year, the new teachers received a new laptop. We had the choice of a Dell Laptop or a MacBook. I've never owned a Mac, but have used them in college. I opted for the MacBook without hesistation. I love it. Once I got used to the shortcut buttons, everything works great. I love the iDVD feature and it is so much easier than the Windows equivalent.

Next time I have to get my own computer, I will spend the extra for the Mac.

PC is dead. That's why they are trying to be more like Macintosh with their latest operating system. Losers.

My friend, sad to say, but it looks like you might be better off with a juiced PC.

Although the Neverwinter Nights is on Mac also. But as a PC, you will need a decently powerful Mac for games either way. But a powerful Mac will cost a penny or two.

I think you might just be better off with a PC. Just get 2 things for it:

2 Gigs of RAM
And a good Virus Protection Software.

If you get a PC, stay away from Torrent software or your computer is done with.

I can download whatever the heck i want 24 hours a day on my Mac though.

That Mac hardly excites me. It's just another computer, nothing to drool over or whatnot... To me, all the monitors look the same in clarity and everything else. It's just whether or not you decide to shell out the money for it. When a computer is free, you really can't complain.

If you are going to get a laptop:
1. go to notebookreview.com, find the forums, sign up, read the FAQ's, then ask what computer you should get after you fill out the "what comp should i get" form. They are really helpful, and there will be peeps there who aren't so mactastic.
2. Take your time in buying your laptop, educate yourself, and look for deals.
3. Check the forums on slickdeals.net until you find a great deal on a great computer, but don't get addicted to the forums because they can be the black hole of time. Use the search function to reduce unnecessary read-time.

If you are going to get a desktop, then you are stupid. J/k, but for the "lightweight" stuff you will be doing, you don't need to go wild. IMO, spending top dollar on tech is a waste since it changes so frequently (LCD's, laptops, phones, etc.). For example, why get a 200 gig HD when you could get a 80 or 100 gig, and an external HD for all of your music, which will prob. go on an MP3 player anyway? Just an example of how to save some $.

Don't get a refurb, educate yourself, and good luck!

PS - how's the book in your avatar?
