Makeup game versus White Sox | Sep. 15, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Gaddis does not appear to have the arsenal to be a MLB pitcher.

My guess is that he won't survive the 40 man purge that is inevitable come December.

However, I dont understand the angst over pitching him today. He has to pitch sometime.. and using him between Quantrill and TMac makes perfect sense.

Tito was gonna have to cede a game sometime, and doing it at a time that allows him to rest the pen is as good as any.
I agree with your point here. But nobody can tell me bringing up Bibee to pitch this game was a much better choice than this guy who has posted shit numbers his whole minor league career.

Let’s just all agree that there has been a huge ass mistake made

I don't think Bibee is Rule 5 eligible, so why the hell would we take up a 40 man spot to pitch him in one game?

Rather than pile on Gaddis I’d like to point out Plesac is an asshole.

Exactly.

Gaddis (and Curry) started the season in AA. They were options 9 or 10 at best going into the season.

Why they are rushed and forced to start?

1. Plesac being an idiot
2. T. Myers (and Battenfield) trade(s) turned out duds
3. Logan "The Bad" Allen

To rub salt in the wound — the facts that Shaw looks like Verlander mowing through this lineup illustrates more clearly that the only things Gopher Gaddis should be pitching are batting practice, home run derby and horseshoes

Ummmm, because we are trying to win a pennant? Bibee was 6-0 in August with a 1.32 ERA and was a unaminous choice for Eastern League pitcher of the month. I don't give 2 shits about rule 5 eligibility to tell you the truth. There are a few others on the 40 man that I have no problem DFA ing.

Yes because AA pitcher of the month means immediate success in the majors. And you might not care about the 40 man, but luckily the FO definitely does.

So keeping Palacios, Gaddis and Maile on the 40 man is more important than winning the pennant. OK. I can guarantee you Bibee would have given us a good chance today. This bum gave us no chance.

What is Morgan started this game and promised to keep one eye closed?

In my mind, splitting Pilk and Morris and Civale was more important because you would hope in those games that we would have been in a situation where we can pull them after a few innings and still be in the game to use your ballpen to see what happens. The issue with Gaddis/Curry (or even Bibee or any other AAA arm coming up fresh for a game) is more than likely, they will give up 4+ runs in 3 innings and thus by the time you take them out, the game got out of hand. As long as you have a long man like McCarty (and then Curry) to eat up a lot of innings, you are not using much if any of your pen (Gaddis for 4 and McCarty for 4 is what 1 inning?) as you conceded game.

Unfortunately, as CATS said, this was going to happen at some point. The issue with some point being today is that with no McCarty ready (due to pitch count from Tues), and THUS you are using the middle part of your pen which is what you exactly were trying to avoid (luckily Shaw didn't struggle much and hopefully neither does Morgan where 30+ pitches may sit them for more than 1 day). Yet, you still haven't split Pilk and Morris and actually speed up the return of Civale instead of getting another game off for the pen with McK and Quant on Monday Tuesday after a long weekend.

But, I guess I am overreacting and beating a dead horse. So, I am out as I got to take me kid to the drs.

The biggest mistake was made long ago when they trusted Plesac instead of moving him last winter. Not only has it cost us what we're watching today, his value has to be lower today than it was in December-January.
