MLB 2024 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It’s plate appearance.
Good. It'd be crazy for MLB to take away the once in a lifetime pitcher who somehow is able to pitch with both arms at the MLB level. Not sure if we'll ever see this. We did get Ohtani though, so maybe.

Today, the 2024 MLB Draft is 90 days away.

According to BA, the top choices are not quite as good as Crews or Langford last year. but they think they're pretty close. BA thinks they would still be rated in the 20's of their Top 100 prospects.

So, as of today, who is your pick, and why?
Remember, the future of the franchise depends on your answer.

Me? I have changed my mind 10 times. But my pick is Charlie Condon.
Why?
  • He's an OF. We have enough MIF
  • He's RH
  • To say he has "unusual power" is an understatement.
  • For a power hitter, he is a pretty good contact hitter, improving on his SwStr% this season.
  • I'm pretty sure he has the size and strength to adjust to wood bats.
My fear - that the deep thinkers in the Guardians FO overthink the choice of the 1-1 pick.

No one has applied more pressure on opponents over the last couple of weeks than junior Nick Kurtz who continued his lights out hitting against Boston College (19-16, 7-11 ACC) to clinch the series. Kurtz reached base five times in the win including a pair of home runs which now brings his total to 13 home runs in the last nine games. He now leads the team with 16 home runs this season and has 55 home runs over the course of his career, tying him for third in program history with Jake Austin (1989-92):

I know they say dont worry about things like being a righty but finally having a big righty thumper in the middle and how appealing that will be is too hard to overlook. If its close between Bazzana and Condon I want Condon.

Bazzana has a 45 to 15 BB/K and 611 OBP, leading all of college baseball playing in a top conference

It's so Bazzana. He's the best at not making outs while hitting 375 in Cape Cod and over 400 the past two years in college.

Oh, and power and some speed too.

80 grade intangibles? Got it too.

It's the most logical choice.

Montgomery, Wetherholt, Kurtz and Condon are pretty good too. It's a strong top 5, top 10 actually

I'm going with Condon over Bazzana because of projection. I think Bazzana is a lot closer to his physical peak than Condon. That's the seperator for me because both look like special players.

Montgomery cannot be overlooked IMO.

It's not just about the numbers folks.

Bazzana by a mile for me.

It's the intangibles!

Can't touch that.

Bazzana if he's a CF (which he certainly is).

And I know this is completely irrational /batshit but I'm having some strong mini-Trout vibes from him.

Matt LaPorta would like a word.

I think people are overrating Condon a bit. Yeah he hits a lot of HRs, but he's also struggled a lot when he's playing in confrence teams.

Unless I've missed a game, he's 23-66 in SEC play with more strike outs than home runs. .348 and a .388 OBP is a good batting average and decent OBP, but he was batting over .500 in out of confrence play with an over .600 OBP. His cape cod numbers aren't very inspiring either. I don't like the fact when Condon plays familiar opponents his stats drop off so much.

Bazzanas consistency just seems to make him the clear cut best bat in the draft. Especially with his insanely high OBP and walk rate. We are stasticially seeing one of the best seasons ever from a middle infielder at the plate.
