Well Houston went and got Vazquez from the Red Soxs, while the Red Soxs replace him with McGuire from the White Soxs....
Rumors would be around Jansen and/or Moreno of the Jays, Murphy of the A's, Contreras of the Cubs, and Carson Kelly of the DBacks, though I would be all for Varsho of the DBacks since he can play a bunch of positions.
Contreras though is the only one that will be traded... None of the others have to be.
DBacks have 1B Walker, LHRP Mantiply and C Kelly on the trading block.
I fail to see how Kelly improves our catching situation. Just another weak stick C.
And, with 15 hrs left, our big trade is Reyes and Call for Oscar and Benson and Gose now out for most of year (little time for redemption). A move in right direction. But, more importantly, we are making internal but not external moves, so far.
I think they will make some type of trade, even in a sense, it's just a Coco Crisp one, bringing in a veteran at least to help mentor these young guys would be great.
I am really thinking Walker is a nice fit...
Atlanta’s pickups helped them win the World Series. So far, a lot of tweaking of rosters.
The Castillo and Montas deals were big, and two closers got swapped for each other.
But its often the little deals that end up making the biggest difference.
Last year it was Atlanta picking up a bunch of platoon outfielders and St Louis recycling two ancient SPs.
I think the tribe kind of boxed themselves into a corner. I can see a trade but with Oscar and Benson additions over Reyes, pushes themselves out of 1B/OF addition (or subtraction). The starter market will be a bit too expensive for them to get a big incremental value over Plesac (and requires 2 trades Plesac and replacement). And, I doubt we go catcher in Contreras as it doesn't push us over the hump for the cost and without making much progress on Murphy type over-the-top addition, it is almost too late for them (slow and methodical approach to win each trade) with less than 12 hrs to go. I rather see Lava or Naylor over Maile at this point.
And, with Reyes demotion, it signals the youth movement is up and coming. If he is deferred vs arb in Nov, it adds Gaddis with only Miko/Misiaiszek/G Rod to be added.
