Myles Garrett : NFL 2023 DPOY

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm about as high on Ward as it gets, but I don't think I've ever heard this take.

Were you perhaps misremembering the discussion about how signing Ward might be more beneficial to us than signing Garrett, because coverage provides more wins per dollar than edge rushers?
Likely the discussion was between drafting Chubb the DE over Ward the CB. I remember that being a discussion here.

Uh, anyone worried he doesn’t even play Sunday?

No it was @Jordan made a good case how coverage is more important that pass rush (I think we can all agree after seeing how terrible the secondary is this year even with Ward playing great) when having to choose who gets paid. That top pass rushers take up much more cap space than top comebackers all the while pass rushers are easier to replace. This was all centered around 1. keeping both Landry and OBJ after next year so it might not matter if Baker continues to look good whiteout OBJ and 2. Having to choose between the two which isn't going to happen unless Ward falls off a production cliff.

Yeah, exactly. The argument was not if Ward is better than Myles, he's nowhere close. It's that, dollar for dollar, secondary is - for me - more efficient spending than pass rush. And, if the Browns wanted to keep Chubb, Baker, OBJ, Jarvis, etc., one of Myles or Ward were not going to be re-signed.

As you note, though, I do not believe that currently will be a problem because of Baker's struggles, OBJ's fit with Baker, Chubb's injury, Hunt's team-friendly contract, etc. I think we should be able to keep both Myles and Ward.

I will read that article after work, but I think saying “we can all agree” is a big stretch

I personally feel that an edge is more important than a CB, but will read the article with an open mind

Its nice when you have a GM know what he is doing. Myles could of held out for a bit more, but signing early did save us some money, then get an appreciative Hunt to sign a very team friendly deal, I am guessing OBJ will be traded, we have 9 games to see how Baker does without him.

Garett is going to have an MRI tomorrow to determine the severity of his knee. Not to mention the existing ankle injury and apparently there’s something going on with his hands too?

We are beyond fucked if he has to miss any time.

lol. Christ. We are beyond fucked if anything is wrong at all.

Here’s the article from Cleveland.com:

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, the reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Month, suffered a knee injury early on in Sunday’s 16-6 loss to the Raiders, and missed most of the second half of the game.

He will undergo an MRI on Monday to determined the extent of it.

He said as long as he can walk and run on the knee, he’ll try to play against the Texans on Nov. 15 after the bye. It might be just a contusion, but they’ll know more after the MRI.

"I’ll try to be out there unless they make a point of holding me out,'' he said.

When asked about his near-strip of Derek Carr, he said he also needed numbing shot on his hand for something that’s been going on. Each day before practice, Garrett gets his hand taped by the trainers.

He’s also suffered from an ankle injury suffered in the days leading up to last week’s 37-34 victory over the Bengals. He tweaked it again during the game, but said the knee injury was unrelated to the ankle.

Garrett, who leads the NFL with nine sacks, had his league-long streak of six games with a sack snapped.

He said the knee was painful and got worse as the game went on. He was unable to help get the Raiders off the field in the second half, when they embarked on drives of 8:54 and 8:47. He came out for a few plays, mostly on third down.

"I did the best I could,'' he said.

The Raiders rushed for 208 yards and converted 8-of-14 third downs with Garrett ailing.

Teammates such as cornerback Denzel Ward and running back Kareem Hunt noted that it’s tough to be without Garrett in a slugfest like that.

I don't think the biggest issue is Myles missing a game or two, its making sure there are no long term effects for Myles getting Covid. He has symptoms, so this could be no big deal or it could get ugly.
