Myles Garrett : NFL 2023 DPOY

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good read from a western PA columnist. Also funny to find out that Michael Irvin used his helmet as a weapon in 1994, swinging it wildly at opposing players in a fight...I actually remember this now. His punishment? A $12K fine....

Went out for drinks last night so of course we got to talking about this.

Friends are offering to buy me and a buddy Steelers tickets and Myles Garrett jerseys if we wear it to the game.
Did you take the offer?

Moving this in here:

Take Garrett out of the Rudolph discussion.

Ogunjobi got suspended for shoving the guy to the ground.
You don't think Rudolph's actions are equatable to a shove?

No, Ogunjobi went after a player with no helmet after the play was over and blindsided him to the ground.

Not equitable at all. If Rudolph blindsided a helmetless player during a scrum, he'd have cause to be suspended.

Nothing he did would warrant a suspension in any other circumstance (but would merit a flag/fine), the only reason Browns fans are relentlessly complaining about it is because of the severity of Garrett's actions and suspension.

Which is why it makes no logical sense.

I think that's a pretty big assumption. I'm not saying Rudolph should be suspended because of Garrett's suspension. I've seen plenty of posts on here say the same thing, that Garrett's punishment is completely justified.

What Ogunjobi did was a shove from behind. If he wanted it to be more, it would have been. Using phrases like "went after" and "blindsided" is making much more of it than what it was, IMO. But, again, if you wanna give him a game, I can see it. The altercation appeared to be over and he shoved the guy anyway.

Rudolph tried to rip a guy's helmet off, repeatedly struck him in the groin, and then charged him after the two had been separated.

Greg Robinson was ejected from a game earlier this season for kicking another player. Why shouldn't Rudolph also miss time?

Instigators usually face a penalty. The continuous omission of the initial instigation is what people are (rightfully) upset about.

Additionally, no fan on this site knows what is/isn't appropriate for a suspension. Nobody knows that what Rudolph did doesn't amount to a suspension. We know this because the league office is notoriously inconsistent with levying fines and suspensions. Going so hard with that opinion is a turn-off because it tells everyone here "I know more about this subjective topic than you" when that isn't the actual case.

Theory: Myles had a moment like this planned all night for his final play on the field against the Steelers in a big time win. Not necessarily the helmet swing, but an unforgettable cheap shot on the QB that was going to go even farther that the original cheapshot hit.

I think he figured that the play he originally had planned would have been something like a late hit and grinding Rudolph’s face into the ground followed by some potential shoving with some guys which would have resulted in a game or two out. This would have been a net positive for his career as the play would have gone down in the Browns highlight reel much like the Turkey Jones play.

In reality, life came at him fast and resulted in much more than he was anticipating and he flipped his shit out of shock and anger that it didn’t go how he expected or planned and he felt like a bitch.

Long term, this is still a net positive for him from a Browns fan standpoint bc he’s the guy that stood up to the Steelers and hell...he’s a Hall of Famer if he keeps it up. But it certainly hurts the season.

Follow up theory: the Kaepernick workout was a red herring done solely to take pressure off of the Myles Garrett story once that narrative got out of the NFL’s control and went in a direction they didn’t like.

Think about it: nobody had heard from him in years as far as a potential NFL career so it came totally out of nowhere. The NFL initiated it. The NFL set the actual terms and then complained about HIM changing it immediately afterwards rather than being complimentary and doing everything they could to get him re-hired.

Seems pretty clear that:

a) this was a red herring
B) we are living in a simulation

Did he hit a helmet-less player from behind well after the play?

Yes. Thus, there is cause for a suspension.

Rudolph grabbing a guy's helmet and getting all aggressive is definitely worthy of a fine, but has never warranted a suspension before.

"Repeatedly struck him in the groin" is also an exaggeration of Rudolph's actions.

So since he’s a woman, it was ok for him to kick him in the groin once?

Is Mason Rudolph a fucking house cat

wouldn’t surprise me. I can’t remember a time I went from being so meh on a guy to so vehemently hating him in a few hours

fuck Rudolph

I'm incredibly ashamed that his father went to school in Northeast Ohio all of the sudden. Rudolph has the most punchable face in the NFL.
