NBA FINALS 2023: Miami Heat vs Denver Nuggets

The biggest change Cleveland needs to is Koby should demand that JBB change this stupid slow pace high three point line hand off offense he runs! We have, I believe, the second youngest team in the league and we are out there walking the ball up the court instead of pushing the tempo!

Our roster isn’t really deep enough to play at a fast pace. We'd burn out too fast.

Just taking a quick look at pace stats; only 7 of the 16 playoff teams were in the league's top half in pace. Boston (20), Denver (24), and Miami (29) were all bottom 10 in pace during the regular season. The only conference finalist in the top 10 was the Lakers, and they mostly played LeBron at PF and a PF at C.

We don't need to be dead last, but the Cavs are never going to be a fast-paced team playing Allen and Mobley big minutes together.

Well the next game is game 7 for Miami. They lose that and they are done.

Highsmith, Robinson, and Love lineup is not going to get anything done.

Pace under JB Bickerstaff has been one of my obsessions.

Here's what I think we need to acknowledge about Boston, Denver, LA and Miami: They are veteran teams with a lot of key players over 30. Those are typically the teams who thrive in the half court and make deep runs in the playoffs. The Cavs are built to theoretically battle a veteran playoff team because they have the ability to bear down in half court defense.

What I absolutely hate about JB and our Garland + Mitchell back court is that they do not seek out opportunities to push in transition. When do you push in transition? Off stops. It isn't a decision made by Allen or Mobley, they help get the stops... and then the coaches and star guards lollygagged. The Cavs who pushed were Love off defensive rebounds, healthy Ricky, and our mediocre small forwards who didn't thrive in the half court like Cedi, Vert and Okoro.

I'm with you that depth issues limit pushing pace. I think our guards get gassed. There needs to be a second gear and a diversity in pace to keep the opponents off balanced next season.

Well that was just too damn long for a game thread...

Was our half-court offense any better? There doesn't seem to be a scheme for that either. It's either high pick and roll, throw it to Mobley while everyone stands around, or a Mitchell/DG 3 when there's nothing else because everyone is also standing around.

Our half court sets saw some interesting development this season, but not enough.

I like sets where Garland ends up in the same corner as a Mitchell drive for an easy read. I like sets where both Mobley and Allen curl into a high/low formation and the ball gets to the high man. They are interchangeable in skill there, so the defense feels pressure with the secondary transition action. I liked sets where Okoro set a pick for a guard because it simplifies his role.

I really wanted more of the motion offense Walton ran in Sac-town. Hopefully more will come in time.

These analysts/reporters trying to turn this into something it's not.

Boston hit their 3s and it really is that simple.

I don't think this is sustainable how Boston is playing. Some of the injuries for the Heat are concerning though.
