New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Last of Us has been getting some pretty rave reviews. HBO sent out the full season to some critics, so they are clearly pretty confident that it doesn't suck.

Good start for The Last of Us. That opening half hour was fantastic. They fleshed it out a little compared to the game's opening sequence. The plane crash looked (and sounded) awesome.

The two leads were predictably excellent. The girl who played Joel's daughter at the beginning was great too in a limited role.

Pilot was pretty damn fantastic. From what I remember, entire scenes were almost shot for shot from the game. Seems like everyone loved it.

I obviously knew what was coming with the soldier, but that didn't stop me from feeling devastated during that whole scene.

TLOU was fantastic. Ramsey and Pascal are perfect in their roles.

As someone who has played the games, I thought the shot for shot recreation in several parts of the episode was awesome.

Fun fact: Marlene has the same actress in both the game and the show.

Never played the game, but the interactions between Pascal and his daughter reminded me very much of myself and my own daughter. So that opening half hour hit me way harder than I expected.

Really well done show.

Ellie is a great contrast for his own daughter too. She's an entirely different person, but you can easily see how Joel comes to love her.

The critics have been absolutely raving about the third episode with Nick Offerman. Can't wait for that one.

Thought it was really good.

First 30 minutes evoked the same emotions that part of the game did. Which meant I was on the struggle bus big time even knowing what was going to happen.

Good start.

The fact that they took a five to ten minute opening and turned it into a half hour of compelling TV was enough for me. They built the tension great in the opening scenes even though I knew what was going on.

So I've never played the game but the big thing that throw me in Last of Us was Anna Torv. They make her look real rough in the beginning of the show that I didn't recognize her and she used a different accent than what she used in Fringe and Mindhunter. She is Australian so it's not her natural voice but it seems like they made her voice over certain parts for some reason, which you can tell because the audio is dull in those parts. Her accent in both her usual American accent and her natural Australian accent has a charm to it. It would be odd to cast her and tell her to take away that. She is real monotone for most of the first episode.

Side note, she is real good in Newsreader and Secret City. Both are Australian produced shows. Secret city is on Netflix and Newsreader is on the Roku channel.

I thought the casting has been all around fantastic so far. I was already sold on Pascal the moment he was announced, Ramsey though I've never seen much of but she has been a very promising as Ellie so far. Liking the bit we have seen of Gabriel Luna as Tommy as well. Excited to see Offerman as Bill, he was another casting announcement that seemed like the perfect choice for the role.

Overall great premiere. Cool to see some scenes and dialogue pulled more or less verbatim from the game. And as some other folks mentioned that opening still hits just as hard as it does every time I've replayed that game.

As a new parent, that part hits a lot heavier than it used to.

I have no knowledge of the game. As a stand-alone, the first episode was still good for me.

I figured out the daughter's demographic was different in the game than in the show by how much outrage I saw online.

My favorite thing was using the Last Of Us score in the actual episodes. Made me feel something I didn’t expect to feel, which was relief that they really wanted adaptation to just mean game on TV.
