New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just started a show called Sons of Anarchy.
Finished Season 1 today. Not bad

This new season of Halo is really not good.

How is it possible to so comprehensively fuck-up such an easy concept? All they do is engage in endless petty conflict between different groups of people who are completely uninteresting.

The Fall of Reach is a seminal event they spend 1.5 seasons leading to. They spend all of 15 minutes on it.

In the very next episode they spend all their time on yet another human interest story around conflict between a bunch of people who don't care about. Religious zealots and rustic bumpkins.

This show should be so easy: Spartans fight the Covenant.

But no....

Writers have minimal talent or creativity these days.

I quit the Halo show during Season 1. It was just really boring and dull to me.

I just watched the Gentlemen on netflix. It was real good especially if you like Guy Ritchie movies. It's one of the few streaming shows that feel like each episode is a story and doesn't bait you into watching the next one.

Andor is so fucking good. I dislike most of the new Star Wars shit but I binged this in about a 48 hour period. Took me forever to muster up the willpower to start it but I am glad I didn’t skip.

I am not a fan.. it moves too slow, a lot of making faces into the camera..does not have a compelling story line so far IMHO..

So after finishing it, I think Masters of the Air wasn't well plotted as a story and the editing of how they interlaced the stories in each episode really hurt the overall story telling of the show.

Like I think each episode cutting between 2 or 3 plot lines in different places really hurt the feel of the show. It never felt we were following along with each person or group, it more felt like we were getting 2nd hand accounts of what was happening through what guys were telling Major Crosby. It felt like the writers were like oh these two stories happened at the same time so we have to intercut despite they had a little to do with each other.

Really we basically saw an account of the war through Major Crosby who was at the base most of the series. They really could have added another source material of stories or even two to the show while cutting out alot at the base. We also didn't get enough small interactions between characters to really get to know them, again that's like 2nd hand accounts of things.

The first couple episodes and the last episodes were what made the show good. The middle which would have been a lot of the meat of the story just felt like it wasn't well executed. Some stories were unnecessary and good stories just felt rushed.

I don't currently have Netflix, but am quite curious about this one... If you watch it let me know what you think please. Maybe I'll sign back up this weekend.

DS9 is the best Trek series.

The first two seasons are a bit slower, but DS9 DOES get a ship in Season 3 and it kicks ass.

DS9 becomes a sprawling epic and is the best written and acted of any series of Trek, or the films. It focuses on characterization and growth of its characters as well as the conflict and social upheaval and political fabric of the Federation and its neighbors that TNG only rarely touched on.

It helped invent the term "prestige tv."

But, it is episodic story-telling like GOT, so it does take a long time to get through.

Moving this to the series thread.

I started DS9. The two part opening shows a lot of promise. The next two episodes weren't as interesting, I assume because they are developing the characters. The opening two parter was good enough to keep going, and good enough to make me wonder why I never even watched it when it came out. Probably because I started having kids in 1992 so didn't watch as much tv anymore.

To be honest the first two seasons are pretty slow.

In fact, you can probably watch Season 1 episode "Duet," Season 2's "Cardassians," Season 2's two-parter, "The Maquis," and then the final episode of Season Two "The Jem Hadar" and call it a day for Seasons 1 and 2.

But, from the first episode of Season 3, "The Search," through the end of the series, and only encounter 4-5 meh episodes.

Season 3 is a huge improvement over Seasons 1 and 2, and is the start of some pretty big, seasons spanning storylines.

As someone who loves The Next Generation, overall I found DS9 to be a little too soapy at times for me. There is some very good character development and even though DS9 isn't my favorite, one of my favorite Star Trek characters is in it. So there's that. Some of bad episodes make them good ones, if you know what I mean. There are some decent story arcs and they tackle a lot of "current" social issues in a variety of ways. Stick with it, it gets consistently better.

You cannot skip Season 1 episode 10 "Move Along Home" if you haven't seen it before.

Allamaraine, count to four

DS9 was the first post-9/11 series... three years before 9/11 happened.

I finished the first season of 3 body problem. I thought it was good and better than the critic reviews that were showing up on my news feed right before it was released. I don't think it was as good as I expected it would be like a month or two ago.

I had no problem binging it. I also think it will get better if it gets the seasons to finish off the series.
