Finished season four of Dexter. The show really should have ended there. The first four seasons are uneven but entertaining. They get a little too focused on relationship drama, though, and it's to the detriment of the show at times. The whole thing with Lila in season two is a mess and really takes away from how good so much of the rest of that season is, with Dexter desperately trying to stay a step ahead of the cops he works with and Agent Lundy.
Season four is definitely the high water mark for the series, with John Lithgow crushing it as the Trinity Killer. The way he shifts from pathetic to downright terrifying at times is impressive. And the ending brings everything full circle, which is why that's where the show should have ended, with Dexter facing the consequences of his obsession and potentially ruining his son the same way he was ruined. The next three seasons just don't really have anything to add, because the show already achieved its perfection (it's not literally perfect when compared to better shows, but it's as close as a show like this can get) with the fourth season finale.
I'll be stopping my Dexter rewatch there and picking up New Blood once it's done and I can just binge the whole season at once.
On to a Narcos: Mexico rewatch before I get to the recently released third season.
