NFL Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We finally get to see Geoff Schwartz pivot from unnecessarily shitting on the Browns every year to grinding his axe with KC.

Isn't KC still over on the cap too? We all saw how bad their line was vs Tampa. The formula is out, get guys to pass rush and you can slow KC.

I mean broadly speaking this is true. Create pressure without blitzing against a QB who prefers to hold onto the ball to let routes develop deep down the field.

But it is also a bit of an oversimplification of what actually happened in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs were working with numerous backups all over their offensive line in the Super Bowl because of COVID opt outs and injuries.

Had Fisher and Schwartz been healthy, does Tampa Bay's DL dominant as much as it did? Probably not as much.

Obviously both of those guys are now gone, but we have to expect OL will be a major priority for the Chiefs in the draft and/or trade market. We can't assume their OL will be as patchwork moving forward as it happened to be in that one specific game.

That Cam Newton contract is nowhere near as bad as it was first reported.

$5M base salary with $9M in incentives that can increase the total value to $14M.

Just 3.5M total guaranteed.

That's a bridge QB contract.

I mean, that's what he is now.

Definitely. I'm thinking more about how they plan to get the quarterback of the future. Do they trade up? Can't get the poor guy many weapons later in the draft if they go that route.

Pretty happy the Browns don't have this problem anymore.

They need to identify their guy(s) in the draft and then do what it takes to get one of them.

Sucks for Cam, it'd be interesting to see how he could do with some help, but that can't be the #1 priority at this point.

Still makes zero sense for them to move him. Money wise, play wise. Zero sense.
Dig in and force him to lose money.

Sure it makes sense.

Multiple first round picks on the table, after the organization’s breathtakingly stupid decisions left them devoid of draft capital.

The player has no interest in playing for the broken franchise, the other players in his own locker room hope he gets his wish.

There is every reason in the world to work something out, unless of course you’re irrationally digging your heels in to prove a lost argument.

With the largest market of available QBs available to replace him (should be easy since he’s “overrated”), the Texans have the chance to get a less “overrated” QB and multiple first rounders.

Sounds like a no brainer.
