OSU at Texas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wow! I'm stunned. Absolutely shocked!

ABC actually put on a kick ass rockin outfit like Robert Randolph and the Family Band. :chuckles:

Seriously, these cats get down. Robert is a freaking god on the steel guitar. Props to ABC. I would of never guessed they were that cool: http://www.robertrandolph.net/

On to the game. How bout that defense? Seven points, and it came on a blown penalty? Nice. Texas had scored 40+ in 12 straight games coming into tonight. If it weren't for their coach patting the ref on the ass, they don't even get a touchdown tonight. That's the best OL we'll face all year. They did protect McCoy somewhat, but we got to him pretty good. I'm very pleased.

Really, this defense is reminding me of the 2002 bend but don't break defense. They give up some plays and make you think "Geez, do we suck on defense? I thought we were supposed to be good?" But then it stiffens when the opponant crosses the 50, and at the end of the game there's not many points on the score board.

Trappasso was booming those punts, Pettrey the kick offs, and the coverage teams looks good. We all know what Ginn can do on returns. Just the fact that teams kick away from him is huge. How many 20 and 30 yard punts did NIU have b/c they were scared to kick to Teddy?

And then there is the best part, the offense. Not only do we have the star quarterback, awesome skill players going 2 and 3 deep, and a great line, but we can spread you out and run or pass, go with the power I, or run the option. Plus the x factor that is Troy's legs. That is crazy. It's damn near impossible to take all of that away. You have to give us something. In other words, good luck stopping this offense.

From what I'm seeing, we're a field goal kicker away from being awesome at everything. And really, with how good we're looking everywhere else, I don't see many games coming down to us needing a field goal.

what so u saying if they played we lose?i dont want excuses, not pointing at u james.i just hope i don't have to hear that.

im not a texas fan, i wanted to see a good close game. i understand fans want domination, but for those who arent fans of either school...it would have been nice to see a game like the USC vs. ND game last year.

I wouldn't pay any attention to James. He's a troll, with absolutely nothing intelligent to add in this forum.

how could you call that a boring game james?? god dam you are ignorant.

it wasnt boring to the buckeye fans.in a sense i can see where its boring to him since he doesnt like either team.but man o man laurinaitis the next aj hawk,i still also love marcus freeman who was quiet that game.take away the pass interference and the missed tackle jenkins ended with a great game.

that call was BS,anyways last year it was the worst weekend ever this time of year.the bucks lost to texas then browns lost the season opener.with this lets hope it will be the complete opposite of last year!!!

BUCKEYES FOR THE 2006 NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!

Bingo

Laurinaitis was amazing. What a huge play at the goal-line and the pick really was the final blow. WHAT A GAME. My thought was hurting like S*$% as I'm sure most of yours were at about half-time. Great job by The Ohio State University.

His dad is Animal from the Legion of Doom. I used to love those guys when I was a kid. His mom was an athlete too. I think a college track star?

Speaking of which, Legion of Doom would be an awesome nickname for the linebackers. I doubt Laurinaitis would use it, trying to get out of his father's shadow, but it wouldn't suprise me to see commentators or journalist use it.

Edit: lots of interesting stats at the end of that summary I posted above, but this one was kind of suprising:

* This marks the sixth time since 1968 that the Buckeyes have faced a defending national champion. The Buckeyes have won all of those games, including the 1969 Rose Bowl over USC, the 1974 Rose Bowl over USC, the 1986 Citrus Bowl over BYU, a 1998 regular season game against Michigan and the 2003 Fiesta Bowl against Miami (Fla.).

6-0 vs the defending champs! Not too shabby!

It was a cool game....mistakes made on both sides with the fumble and missed field goal but Texas is clearly not a BCS team this year.

Some news channel came to my work and I got interviewed because I had a Texas shirt on. It was pretty cool environment.

It's really not our fault that Ohio State towers head and shoulders above Texas. Actually, I should say that it's not our fault that Texas is forced to play that dude that they have at QB. If V. Young came back for this year, Texas would still be right up there. Everyone says that football is a team sport and one individual can't determine that many things about a team, but in the case of Texas and Young, the complete opposite is true.

so with all this, who is OSU's biggest threat? because the gap between #1 and #2 was made apparent this weekend.

I think USC is probably deserving of the #2 rating. We'll see how they fare against Nebraska. Notre Dame looked a lot better against Penn St. It's either one of those two. Texas could beat either one of them though I believe.

Despite what happened last year, I think Ohio State and Notre Dame are evenly matched. ND's offense is on par with ours. We had an amazing defense last year that lost a lot of key players, including all three linebackers. Our defense got worse while ND's offense has gotten better since Quinn and Weiss have been together for over a season now and Quinn is a senior. On the flip side, I think their defense is better than ours and can put up some kind of a resistance to our offense.

ND is a legit #2 team. Their true test will come when they have to go to LA and face the Trojans, but I expect them to win that game. OSU vs. ND is going to be the national title game this year. And it won't be a beatdown like OSU vs. Texas was.
