Ohio State in clear over car purchases
Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles says its investigation of Ohio State football players' car purchases found no evidence players received improper deals.

The agency undertook its review following allegations that two Columbus-area dealers sold vehicles to Ohio State athletes and family members at below market rates.

The BMV's 65-page report issued Tuesday said the certificates of titles for cars sold by Jack Maxton Chevrolet and Auto Direct to players and families accurately reflected the vehicles' sales prices.

Questions about players' car purchases arose in the wake of a scandal in which some players received cash and tattoos for autographs, championship rings and equipment.

I'm surprised they even printed a retraction.

Funny, when this story first came out we had three columns dedicated to how bad this was and what it all meant.

Now, when the FACTS come out...a four paragraph retraction.

Nope, they are most definitely not looking to fan flames.

All this means is no laws were broken so the dealership is in the clear. This doesnt mean no NCAA violations havent occured. How many people here have taken home a dealer car? I never have had the "extended" test drive offered to me much less atleast 3 times in a 2 year period like Pryor. Dont kid yourself Boobie, this isnt over yet, the NCAA has not cleared OSU yet.

The Dispatch's article says 24 of 25 sales made profit and average was $2000 over wholesale. The 1 for negative profit was because of a car in inventory a long time.

This seems like it was a farce from the start...

Whatever helps you sleep at night boobie. Keep telling yourself that.

Keep telling myself what?

That Ohio State hasn't done anything wrong in this particular case? Because it appears to be the case.

But hey, keep throwing out one liners like you knew it all along...You'll look even more foolish than you did trying to bash Larry Dolan on the Indians board.

Doesn't disprove all the allegations. In fact it kinda in a way reinforced one. That dealerships were giving extended loaners.

It doesn't seem to reinforce it all at...it's barely mentioned.

why would you buy a car if you could get one on loan?
man those 54 players over 4 years were really stupid.

I would think the national media would be a embarrassed by the witch hunt mentality that they've had thus far regarding OSU. It really has been unprecedented. Would it have killed them to wait for some tangible proof before piling on so viciously? I know that there is more time until the August hearing. But, the NCAA has to come up with more than they've gotten so far to appease the many OSU haters and drop the USC like hammer.

Right now all I see that has been proven is the tattoo business and Tressel's cover up of it. Tressel committed a serious violation and is gone. Pryor is gone. The other players are out for half the season. The players violations weren't insignificant. But, what more punishment do people expect the school to get for that?

The SI article was particularly disgraceful. You'd think that Dohrman would have to have some legit proof before starting a smear campaign. It was supposed to be a nuclear bomb but was more like a pop gun. A lot of allegations were made but not much substance to back it up. Dohrman was grasping at straws so badly that he brought up a supposedly rigged lottery from the 80s. Really?

The car business hasn't revealed anything that would demonstrate a failure to monitor by the OSU compliance department. The hosting OSU players for golf is a pretty minor violation. Again, I'm not seeing LOIC with that.

So, to sum it up, USC had recruiting violations, booster involvement, and far greater illegal benefits than anything OSU has been proven to obtained. It boggles my mind that the national media seems to think OSU deserves USC like punishment. In fact, most think it should be worse since USCs crimes supposedly only involved Reggie Bush in their myopic minds. I've not seen anything that demonstrates failure to monitor much less LOIC from the OSU compliance department. That's what it should take to get anywhere near USC's sanctions.

In fact, I'll add this little jewel that will really made the haters blood boil. This business with Oregon and the 25k if proven is far more serious than what OSU has been alleged to have done since it is a recruiting violation and is specifically designed to give them a competitive advantage.

The OHIO bmv didn't find anything illegal...PFFFT what a bunch of OSU homers! They need to take off their scarlet and gray lenses and they'd see clearly everything OSU did was wrong!

I hope I can get the same deals when I purchase my next car from the same dealer. I'm now thinking I certainly can and should, right?

Exactly. No laws were broken, that's all this article says. TP got 3 moving violations in 3 different loaner cars over a 2 year period....claiming his car was getting fixed twice and that the third was a test drive. 3 moving violations, never his own car...that defies all laws of statistical probability.
They were clearly giving TP and other players cars to use. Against the BMV laws? Nope. NCAA violations? Yep!

You're right the State of Ohio has done nothing wrong i this particular case. The Ohio State University however, needs to be investigated further. I've said it on this forum that a lot of division I football/basketball is corrupt and to think it isn't is naive.

Every program has violations, that should not be shocking to anyone.

But to say the football and basketball programs are corrupt aside from this incident is basically just talking out of your ass, which is something you're clearly used to at this point.

Its not against the law or a NCCA violation for a player to drive a loaner car when their car is in the shop. If my car is in the shop i get the same treatment, so their is no improper benefits. The car thing has been investigated for years and there is no proof of improper benefits. Even if the players were getting special treatment it is very hard to prove and it is circumstantial.
