Looks like now that all the smoke has cleared and bucks season is over, Mike Redd is exploring his options. I read an article on this on realgm a few days ago but i cant seem to locate it, however i do have a link to another article. With the salary cap rumores to be a tad higher than next year this is very good news. Looks like it could be a possibility to re-ink iggy then go out and sign mike redd and a point guard like antonio daniels.

No matter who your preference is at shooting guard, Michael Redd is a good fit. He may struggle at times defensively, but he is not to be mixed up with McInnis. He jumps around in my preference, but at the end of the day, the Cavaliers wouldn't benefit big time with his game. He is not just a shooter, but can find many ways to operate. Place him with the pass first, defensively minded Snow and we are 200% better off from last seasons duo of Newble and McInnis.

Redd isn't my top choice but I'd be happy if he was signed this summer. He does probably have the most limited all around game of the top FA SG's but he would be a huge upgrade and help for the Cavs. Of the top FA SG's the two to go after who are most likely to leave their teams are Allen and Redd. Those are the two the Cavs should go after first.
I like Joe Johnson a lot but since he's restricted it's too much of a risk. I don't see Hughes leaving Wash. either.

Teams will do what they did last year if snow is in the starting lineup--make snow shoot.

We have to have a pg who is both solid on defense and can consistently make perimeter shots.

The Point Guard position is the most important position in the game.

He's the player who touches the ball more then anyone on the team on offense and runs the team.

Most of the fans on this board seem to be content at just keeping what we have at point guard or filling the position with mediocre players when to me it's probably as important as the Cavs getting a good perimeter shooter and definitely more important then resigning Ilgauskas.

The Lakers won with Fisher, Harper and Shaw at point and the Bulls won with a broken down Harper. Point guard is an important spot, but with a player like LeBron, it isn't as key. I do agree though that Snow does need to be hit the open J's which he is proven incapable of, and we will suffer a little from this. But his defensive presense and leadership will keep his as an important cog.

Harper wasn't the starter and Snow can't touch Fisher when he was a Laker.

Fisher was a killer clutch shooter in the playoffs and is a great defender.

If the point guard can't consistently make perimeter shots then the team will struggle offensively.

Just look at the Cavs last season when McInnis played well and made shots and then look at 2nd half of the season when no pg could make shots for the Cavs.

It's a huge huge difference!

True. But that was when we had no other go-to guys other than LeBron. Having Redd out there instaed of Newble will make a hell of a difference. If we can somehow retain Z, we have that triple threat of LeBron, Z, and Redd. LeBron can hit the perimeter shot now, so we'll have those to on the outside with Z in the middle. It should work fairly well, eh?

It'll be difficult to sign a marquee point guard given our priorities. Many of our problems will dissolve if we improve in other areas.

Yes, PG's touch the ball more than anyone else. But wait a minute, we have LeBron. I'm sure he'll be touching it a lot more regardless, he loves to run the offense. We don't need an outstanding PG, we just need one that can pass and play defense. Oh yea, Eric Snow.

I'd be excited with Redd here, now that off-season is starting, I think Milwaukee is realizing that it's going to be pretty difficult to retain Redd if they don't give him the max. We'd have enough to match nearly anything, so it's a choice between a struggling Bucks team doomed for mediocrity for the next 5 years, or a bright Cavaliers team where he'd fit in perfectly.

And if yhou really think about it, Redd isn't good defensively. Sure. But neither is Ray Allen. JJ? About average. Same with Simmons. Only good defender from the bunch we're looking at is Larry Hughes, but he's most likely going nowhere. Bring on the Miracle of the Heartland story.

Snow (canton)
Redd (osu)
LeBron (akron)
Whoever
Whoever

Saunders

Hometown boys. Bring Cavs the first championship.

Most of us have accepted that the odds of the Cavs being able to acquire a quality starting PG this offseason are very slim. We do recognize that we're going to need an upgrade over Snow.
The FA PG crop this year is very weak and the Cavs would have to overpay to get one of the better FA PG's.

The Cavs also don't have enough that they can afford to give up that would be enough to trade for a top PG.

PG is a position that is going to have to be addressed in the next couple of years. Not every need is going to be able to be filled at once. The strength of this year's FA market is at SG where the Cavs also need help. They need to sign the best player they can get for their money and SG is the spot where they can get that value.

Snow won't look as bad next season if he has Allen or Redd with him in the backcourt to make shots and draw defensive attention rather than having Ira Newble playing next to him.

Disector correct me if I'm wrong, but I am certain (sorta) that Ron Harper started alongside MJ in the Bulls 2nd 3 peat.

harper
jordan
pippen

was the back court, people wonder why the bulls D was so good.. 3 top notch defenders right there.

Harper wasn't the player he was in Chicago in LA due to his injuries. It robbed him of his quickness, and his offense had suffered. I was not knocking him as he proved to be the perfect foil in all those championships with his hard nosed defense. Snow has some of those characteristics, which to me alongside to offensively gifted players will be vital.

Getting Redd AND Z signed this offseason would be huge. I think people mioght be forgetting that a bigger cap for the Cavs is also a bigger cap for everyone else. I think Milwaukee will still be able to offer Redd more money. And we've all seen where players will go for money.

If the Cavs had Z and Redd to go with Lebron and Gooden, well, lets just say we could have Dasanga Diop running the PG with that line up.

Now IF it happened, how sweet would it be if Z's Lithuanian connection landed the guy who is widely reguarded as the best player not playing in the NBA and Luke Jackson came along and developed like so many were hoping? And maybe we could land Flip too. But ah thats wishful thinking (the Cleveland version of the Shaq, Kobe, Payton, and Malone on a team coached by Phil Jackson, except in LA stuff like that actually happens)

Milwaukee can give Redd more money then anyone. The real question is would he take slightly less money (and in reality it isn't all that much less) to go to a better team.

Either way, Milwaukee or Cleveland, he's about to get paid.
