Paint the town Redd

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He doesnt have a severe defensive weakness, so there goes your logic.

If we had a PG capable of playing D (funny how Z only had D weaknesses since JMac has been our PG, not Miller...not Ollie, but JMac). Z played fine on D when Snow was in the game.

Bottom line is, he isnt the best helpside defender anymore...but man to man he is a good defender and what he brings to the table on O more than makes up for a PG that was incapable of defending the pick and roll.

As for Redd...eh..Id much rather get two or three players than one player, that is the same logic I have for Allen or Joe Johnson. This team needs help, having Lebron who is probably the worst on ball defender in the NBA, next to somebody like Redd and you will get what the Suns are getting right now..

Whatever is done, the Cavs have to upgrade the talent level on the roster. That's why it's must one of these top FA SG's is signed. That's where the strength of this year's FA market is and this offseason will be the only chance the Cavs have to be a major player in free agency and have lots of cap space available.
Redd isn't my #1 choice but it comes down to who the Cavs can get among the big FA 4 of Allen, Johnson, Redd and Hughes. If the Cavs can't get one of those 4 or add a major core piece this summer than the offseason will be a huge letdown and maybe even a bust.

It's not a dream that Z will sign for less than the $14 million he's making now. He has no choice. No team is going to pay him that much. Of course his agent will start negotiations at that price. Agents always start high. It's part of the negotiation process.
I think it is possible to sign Z to a contract that averages $10-11 million a season over the life of the contract.

My preference at SG would be Joe Johnson but even with the Bucks landing the top pick I think Redd might be easier to get because he's not restricted. I also understand that a group of Lebron, Redd and Z isn't great defensively especially when you add in Gooden. The thing that I could see working is that we have Snow at PG who's a good defender and if we could move Gooden and get a strong defender at PF I think Mike Brown, a defensive specialist, might be able to come up with a scome schemes to make us a pretty good defensive team. I'm also factoring in that Lebron should improve from another year in the league and from the fact that adding another scorer should mean that Lebron won't have to play the whole game and worry about scoring every point.

Maybe it is a dream and maybe it isn't but I sure can not recall the last NBA player who said they would take less money to stay with a team not in contention to win it all.

Agents don't usually start high they say we are getting this much and will try to find someone who will pay thier player that much money.
They may take a small cut but from everything reported about Z and his agent he's not taking a paycut.

As for somebody paying him what he's asking for--don't be surprised.
People always overpay for big men.
Boozer and Okur from last year come to mind and if they can get paid rediculous contracts so can Z!

Gilbert made it clear Thursday that the Cavaliers are planning on making a move to get a first-round draft pick, perhaps with the intention of selecting a point guard or center. He indicated that they might buy a pick. The only player whom the team would be willing to part with that would bring a pick is likely guard Sasha Pavlovic.

I think that this year's draft has good number of pgs. I think that the Cavs will probably get the draft pick, get a point gaurd, let Z go, get Redd and spend the rest of the cap space on a quality big man.

I am not too worried about Lebron's D this year because everyone is saying that M. Brown is a D-specialist. Lebron is hard worker and I think he will improve his D this year because that is what he get criticized for, just like he improved his shot when everyone criticized him for it.

This was brought up on another board and I agree. If the Cavs do trade into the draft than it has to be to get in position to draft a player that they have targeted and is available with that pick. It can't be to just get a draft pick and take whoever is left available at that spot. This also means that it would be best to wait until as close to the draft as possible or during the draft to make any trade to get a pick.

One more note on Z. After yesterday's press conference it seems pretty clear that Z is gone. Gilbert appears to have made up his mind that he's not going to pay Z. It will take whoever is eventually brought in as a GM or president making a very strong case to Gilbert that Z should be resigned to bring him back.
The only question now might be whether the Cavs try to work out on sign and trade with Z or just let him go to free up that cap space.

Any increase in the new CBA cap sapce would still only give the Bucks only slightly $2million more than the Cavs have to offer Redd. The question is what is more important to Redd....the money or being the missing piece on a team that will challenge for the EC title for years to come. If the Bucks give Redd the money he wants it will prevent them from improving the team down the road and keep them in the Central division cellar. Redd could push the Cavs over the hump big time but staying with the Bucks does not improve thier chances.

What was said that lead you to believe z is gone? I didnt watch the press conference, so i dont know..

Gilbert isnt the GM, he should have NO say in player personnell. He signs the checks, that's why he is hiring a GM, to get the players.

Gilbert has already made enough bad moves, he needs to sit the hell down and bring somebody in that knows what they are doing and hopefully that isnt Larry Brown.

I listened to the conference and I couldn't make out either way what they were going to do with Ilgauskas.

Coach Brown stated that a good system will help any player be a good defender. He said that answering a Zydrunas question. So, it sorta looks like Brown is interested in Z for next season. But you never know.
