Possible Point Guards

Many would disagree, but I would like to have the veteran PG Damon Stoudamire. He has had his in home problems we all know that, but on the court, he is a pure professional. He can pretty much do everything we need him to: penetrate/push the ball/shoot the rock/decent defender and he is also an experienced player.

damon was on best damn sports show last night and said that lebron was his first choice of any player he could chose to play beside..

he said
1.lebron
1.a. kevin garnett

he siad he would love for that oppurtunity to present its self.. i would personally love for damon to play here too. he is a baller that would compensate lebron nicely..

You could hear alot of players saying they want to be in Cleveland especially if the Cavs sign Phil Jackson as the coach.

Jackson and LeBron could bring in some quality free agents for less money just because most of the NBA knows that Phil is a proven winner and Bron is the up and coming player in the league.

Much like Grizzlies' fans have bad things to say about Watson, Blazers' fans say the same of Damon. From the Blazer games I watched, the team often looked better with Telfair in the game than Damon. Stoudamire has range on his jumper, sometimes playing better as a SG than a PG! With that said, I'd be wary of Watson or Stoudamire.

I really don't care for Damon Stoudamire.

He's inconsistent from the perimeter and does have other problems.

I wouldn't mind Watson but he'd be a risk.

I kind of like Troy Hudson.
When he got his opportunity in Orlando and his 1st year in Minny he was good and was very good in the playoffs versus the Lakers that year.

I don't think he really liked having to be in Sam Cassell's shadow and if he was given the starters job could really help a team.

The guy on the list that intrigues me is Steve Blake.

He never really got an opportunity in Washington but when I watched him play he was a solid PG who hit open shots and made good decisions.

Then again he may have never got an opportunity for a reason.

Blake is a very scrappy player but I am not sure he is starter quality. He is a very nice asset to bring off the bench but I'm not sold on him being a starter (well if he is starter quality, then is he just an average starter or an above average starter).

I say we forget about our SG position this year and get Larry Hughes I've been watching him in the playoffs and they are using him at point. He seems very comfortable the would allow Sasha or Luke to step up therefore, our lineup would look something similar to this

Hughes / Snow
Sasha / Luke
Lebron / Newble
Gooden / Anderson
Z / Traylor

Granted Hughes is injury proned but this line-up would definitely be a run and gun not to mention our 2nd stringers would be pure energy and defense off the bench...

I dont think Hughes is gonna leave Wash. As a player like him, who has bounced around, you find your niche, you stay. He is gonna get paid regardless,no reason for him to leave.

Steve Blake is one guy to stay away from, we need vets who can take over if Snow goes down to injury and we need people whos been in the L and know how to run things.

Blake isnt a bad player, he has some decent potential to get better, but we need vets. We need players that know what it takes to win down the stretch.,

i dont think that hughes will leave washington either. he has found his niche there with jamison and arenas.

for a point guard position here in cleveland though i want a guy who will pass first score second. brevin knight might be that guy. i know from what i read here that no one is high on this guy but bring him back and let him have those 15 assists games here that we need.

We have that in Snow, who is also a very capable defender. I am more on the lines of thinking of backups for us.

Trade Sasha and Harris's expiring contract for Chris Duhon. I realize Duhon is in the same mold as Snow ( Little offense, great D) but Snow is getting older and for a guy who hates Duke players, I've been impressed with Duhon. He's a perfect PG to groom to replace Snow. With a real starter calibre SG (hopefully), I think Snow with do fine as a starter till Duhon improves his jump shot enough

Jiri and Sasha to me are on the trading block for a point guard. Duhon is an option there. He has had some experience starting now with the Bulls so we know what we are getting.

I like Duhon.

He is already a better shooter and more athletic then Snow and plays good D.

Duhon needs to improve on his offensive consistency but is a solid addition to whatever team can get him.

The Bulls have said they intend to resign all their young FA's. Duhon is restricted and was signed to a cheap rookie 2nd round pick contract. I'm pretty sure that under salary cap rules that the Bulls can only match offers up to the MLE. That's how the Warriors lost Arenas and was the problem in the Boozer mess with the Cavs. They were both 2nd round picks whose contracts fell under different rules than #1 picks and who both outplayed where they were drafted.

The question then is Duhon worth a contract starting at about $5 million in the 1st year (approx. MLE salary)?

At this stage of his career Duhon is not worth those sort of dollars. With this being the case, we may have to pass on Duhon. In saying this, there is oppotunity in a sign and trade. The Bulls already have Hinrich, Gordon, Pargo and Williams at the point. There is an opening there, but its unlikely the Bulls would want to part with a young guard who has shown tremendous maturity from the get go.

For all the Bulls guards they are small. Both Hinrich and Gordon should be guarding point guards. They have Deng but he is going to their SF of the future. Sasha fits a need for that as a SG who can defend well.

Also considering they have to pay up to keep both Chandler and Curry, if we throw in a sweetener with Harris's expiring contract the Bulls would likely go for it IMO
