First film was good. Second film was panned and the third film was meh.

Generally speaking, most Star Trek fans didn't like the last two due to JJ Abrams' style of filmmaking which doesn't translate well to details obsessed fanbases.

Bad reviews and declining box office has put the reboot franchise into hiatus.

I rewatched the 2nd one and am 2/3rds of the way through the 3rd one and thought they are good. They could have easily made a half dozen Star Trek reboot movies by now and in the process built a better story.

The films were costing too much for their return and the stars were not eager to return.

But that isn't unique to those films.

Costs are insane for making films and it makes it very difficult to really make money on them.

That and their core constituency, Trekkies, had lost interest in the Kelvin timeline.

The overwhelming success of Picard Season 3 demonstrates people want to go back to the TNG era timeline.

Films also brought in a new generation of fans to the franchise. I grew up when the TOS was new, but my daughter's first Star Trek movie or show was watching the new movies. It made her want to go back and watch with me most of TOS and the Star Trek movies with that cast. And she prefers is over Star Wars.

I guess the new series can do that too.

I want to watch TNG series and movies with her so she can see Q and the Borg, but there are so many episodes to that it's hard to find the time when she's off to college.

I watched the whole TNG series when they were new, but haven't really watched series since then. I was probably wrong, but it didn't seem as interesting that DS9 wasn't a ship.

I haven't watched the new series. Which one is better, Picard or Strange New Worlds? I somehow didn't realize until just now that TNG cast is in Picard.

DS9 is the best Trek series.

The first two seasons are a bit slower, but DS9 DOES get a ship in Season 3 and it kicks ass.

DS9 becomes a sprawling epic and is the best written and acted of any series of Trek, or the films. It focuses on characterization and growth of its characters as well as the conflict and social upheaval and political fabric of the Federation and its neighbors that TNG only rarely touched on.

It helped invent the term "prestige tv."

But, it is episodic story-telling like GOT, so it does take a long time to get through.

Strange New Worlds is decent. It is a good weekly watch. But, I wouldn't say you would be missing something if you passed on it.

However, Picard Season 3, and only Season 3, is required watching.

The first two seasons of Picard I didn't like and were not generally well received either. Those seasons do not have the TNG cast aside from Patrick Stewart.

But, the entire TNG cast, plus some from DS9 and Voyager, are in Picard Season 3 can be watched as a stand-alone epic. It is like an 8-hour tour de force and the proper send-off to TNG, and even Voyager that we didn't get in Star Trek: Generations and Star Trek: Nemesis.

If you loved TNG you will love Picard Season 3.

A masterpiece.

Herzog of course is a known genius.

And Klaus Kinski is a lunatic but a savant at acting. Top 5 with DDL, Sir Lawrence Olivier, etc.

A tale of simmering madness and genius. Of what humanity can achieve, for all the wrong reasons.

Herzog was an enabler of Kinski, who was an abusive monster who sexually molested his kid. Herzog didn't care that he terrorized others on his movies, because Kinski helped Herzog make great movies. Kinski wasn't acting, he was every bit the sociopath he played on screen. Screw both of them.

Frozen empire. 7/10 if you are a Ghostbusters film. Not as good as 1 or afterlife. Tries to do way too much and feels like a pilot episode.

that’s a fair score. I really enjoyed it, but it took forever to get to the point and the “ghost”. I didn’t care for the ghost, didn’t even feel like it was a ghost. Definitely recommend it. My daughter who is 10 really enjoyed it and that was the goal.
Next is Godzilla X Kong next week

Yeah I think the whole scale of the film ended up being so small. I'm guessing due to production issues with the original cast

I was surprisingly entertained by the Road House remake on Amazon Prime. It was nothing cinematically ground breaking, but fun from the beginning to the end. Quite different than the original but had a similar feel. Connor McGregor was extremely over the top and honestly it worked for him. 8/10

My wife suckered me into watching a Lifetime Movie called Girl In The Basement.

For a LNM, a solid 7.

Crazy ass story.

I couldn’t finish it. Made it about 45 minutes into it. Maybe one day. And make G is one of my favorites but I couldn’t commit two hours to that.
