RGIII: Hardly Knew Thee

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It will be McCown because he gives us the "best chance to win."

But I'd rather see Kessler.

Heck maybe even Hogan.

Just don't see the point in playing a 37 year old QB.

The point would be to avoid the blatant tank for the sake of actually developing a team. You're stunting the growth of your first-round pick (Corey Coleman) by putting in a QB who can't get the ball to him. You're also not helping any of your defensive guys by playing them 40 minutes each week. You can't just flip a switch from tank to 8 wins; you're setting yourself back even further if you decide to mail-it-in.

this shit is comical. you guys are on it today.

Start McCown this week while giving Kessler essentially two weeks to prep to be a starter. Throw him in the fire. Unlikely, but you may find a diamond in the rough. Better to know now and remove all doubt. McCown isn't any part of this team's future.

Sad thing is, McCown will more than likely perform better than RGIII would have, through-out the year. A 37 year old with marginal athletic ability, is a better QB than RGIII.

Not that they'd do this. But if I'm the Browns, I'd call New England about Garrappolo once Brady comes back. Why the hell not?

And no, I'm not just saying this because of last night's performance. I wanted the Browns to draft him, and believe he would be the sleeper of the draft. I liked him before the draft. Of course, we let New England get him, to only validate I might actually know what I was talking about in Garrappolo being good.

It could make sense for both teams. One, the Patriots could get back some of the picks they lost in the deflategate.

Two, the Patriots already have another rookie QB they can at least groom for a few years when Brady hangs it up. By the way, Belichick is infamous for not liking to have three QBs on the roster. So it's not like Old Bill wasn't preparing for someone to go eventually...

I don't think Brady is ready to go anywhere, probably has another 2-3 years, so that creates a Jimmy dilemma.

And for the Browns, this can maybe finally end the QB carousel once and for all. I think Jimmy is a legit starter in the NFL. Something we can't claim we've had in the last 20 years.

The cost. They will want a first rounder for him, at least.

Maybe not, maybe. Of course maybe they won't be interested in any deal too. If the Patriots are 4-0 and Jimmy is playing that good. I'd be surprised if they'd go with Jimmy ahead of Brady, but this league goes into different directions fast.

It doesn't hurt to call the emphasis was that, not give them whatever they want at any costs. Luckily we have more time to sit back and see him play before we determine anything definitively. I don't think he will play bad though. He's ready to be a starter IMO.

Yeah I agree. Just in my personal opinion I think they'd be asking for more than I'm comfortable giving up. Remember Jimmy G was a second rounder. Hard to believe his stock has fallen any since then.

He's also a free agent at the end of the season. If Jimmy plays well, they are going to have to trade him, or maybe let Brady go if they want to keep Jimmy long-term.

They have a lot of players they badly want to re-sign too, that's why they traded Chandler.

So, they are in dilemma either way. They either need to commit to him long-term, or go another direction. We just saw Peyton's backup get 70 million.

Given he's not under contract long-term, that they probably are going to lose him regardless if they're still committed to Tom.

Which we all assume they probably still are.

The two reasons I can think of, and I'm not saying that I am completely supportive of them, are: 1) The history of Tom Brady's back-ups and; 2) Garrappolo's value has never been higher.

The value might be high, and frankly if the Browns brass/Hue believe in him, then I'd be for it.

I mean, there's no guarantee even if we get the number one pick the QB will be a hit. So, if you believe the guy is good enough, there's no higher commodity than QB. And the fact he was Brady's back up (anyone better to learn under) and has been with the best organization in football for the last two years can't hurt.

As for Brady's back ups. Matt Cassel was a back up at USC. He hardly came in with any expectations.

Mallett never showed he was good, he was just a wash. Hoyer doesn't have the same talent at all as Garopollo. I don't see any similarities in those guys.

Garopollo was a second round draft pick and had all the hits scouting wise you want to see in QB.

Lighting quick release, good decision maker, smart, and a good leader.

The down side was his hand size and competition he went against in college (which I always think is kinda overrated when evaluating a QB).

I'm just glad he's finally gone

Pats would give us Jimmy G and a pick.....
