Second half 22 GM Thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@sportscoach
Yes Oakland is looking to bring in talent, but Puk doesn't enter his arbitration years until 2024.
That's 4 plus seasons of overall control & 1 plus season at league minimum...

1) Why does Oakland make the deal?
2) I think you offer is is way low... It feels like the equivalent of broken buttons and bent paper clips.
If I was Oakland I would want 1 of Will Dion/ Jack Leftwich along with 1 of Milan Tolentino/ Jake Fox and a PTBNL... I fully suspect CLE to say no to that counter offer.

We at least are on the same page and I wouldn't be against Dion, Tolentino and a lotto prospect/player to be named later... I cannot actually choose Dion since they haven't added him yet on the site.

I think that's a fair evaluation. If they want now players, Call and Fermin are way closer, but if they want upside, your move makes a ton more sense...

I am trying to find relievers with upside/skillset that we actually need. I don't think we have electric arms out of our pen right now.

You know any good names we could try for? I want someone with years of control to compliment Clase... What did you think about the Move with the Cubs?

Call and Fermin will be available for free in the R5. Why would anybody spend for what they could get for nothing?

Neither have any trade value.

@Gson I need your help...

I want to make one or two trades to get more bullpen help... so if possible in here/BTV find me bullpen targets... I want to find a way to get one left hander and one right hander... help me find guys near MLB as well...

My first one is a weird one...

Cubs get...
UTIL Clement
SP Curry
RHP Torres (maybe a different guy here).

Cleveland gets
UTIL Bote
RHP Effross
(Maybe cash and/or lotto prospect)

Reason why Cubs do this... First off they don't want to trade Effross, so Cleveland takes Bote's bad contract off their hands and give them a SP prospect in Curry... I know Cubs can spend, but they get rid of a bad contract nonetheless... Bote is an utility guy like Clement, but has more upside with the bat...

Other guys on my list, RHP Bednar (PIT), RHP Lange (DET), RHP Barlow (KC) RHP Barlow (Tex) LHP Martin (Tex) LHP Puk (Oak).
Hmmm... odd.. weird.. crazy.. is this some form/hedge allowing you to say "... it was just an idea.. not fully cooked.. and open to change?..." Have some conviction, man !!

The Cubs would not do this deal.. David Bote has thunder in his bat & the cubs aren't worried about paying the little amount on his contract. After being injured in the spring, Bote is back & fully healthy.. He has a contract that, if he barely meets his projected ability, is a steal. The Cubs are effusive in their praise of Effross (for no good reason I can see).. so, they would need to be "overwhelmed" by an offer for him.. Adding cash ? No one in this deal is making big money (read: eight figures).. Adding another Guardian minor leaguer would be the way to go.. but.. that added guy needs to be someone with more than some upside..

The Guardians wouldn't be interested in this deal as Bote's best spot, 2B, is more than adequately covered. Efffros is Nick Sandlin with better control and less "stuff".. Neither one of these guys move the needle..

The RP's are all worthy of consideration.. volatile... an improvement... Puk might be the most getable..

Jake Fox is an Oakland A kind of guy..

Actually Call will be a free agent, it's about getting the control of players since they would get them now and add to their 40 man...

Part of the reason why I choose them is because of that, plus I couldn't find Dion on the trade thing...

What would you give up for Puk? Also Sandlin and Effross may be similar, but Effross is in the red in every single category outside of his 4 seam fastball which he almost never throws on baseball savant. I was surprised with how effective he has been.

I am looking for guys with team control and have great stuff. Via baseball savant, Effross fits the bill...

Comp A pick

Sure... send the Guardians a comp pick and/or a choice player/prospect for one or two players like (Karinchak, Vargas, Clement, Miller, Rocchio, Tena, and or Palacios) on the forty man roster.. but make no mistake.. if the return doesn't help now and/or into the future.. don't do it..

Who would you like to see us get?

Herrera, Moreno, Alvarez, Langeliers... any one of these four.. adding in one or more players/prospects not named (the usual names).... and the comp pick.
Curious - what do you think of Alvarez vs Naylor in terms of MLB readiness, particularly at the defensive level? Herrera seems sorta like a Kirk kind of prospect where he's fat, questionable defensively, with a bat (in his case, more power less contact). Good thing is he's young but he doesn't seem like someone who you might even want to plug in the lineup to start 2023. Of the 4 seems like the worst target on the surface, Langeliers seems untouchable from Oakland's perspective, and the other 2 also being clung to pretty tightly by their organizations. I feel like the last two's rise would make Jansen and Murphy more available though.

Hmm... let me respond by first rating the four:

1. Gabriel Moreno
2. Francisco Alvarez
3. Shea Langeliers
4. Ivan Herrera

Of the four, 1 & 2 are most unavailable and most talented. Those two guys are the best prospect backstops in baseball not named Rutschman.. Langeliers is in an unusual situation in Oakland. He has just entered their system, so he is an "outsider", but the talent is unassailable. Shea also has a back up prospect in the form of Soderstrom.. who would be just as welcome (I'd rate Soderstrom # 4 on this list). Herrera is the low man on the totem of this group but is closer to readiness than Naylor, at present.. By the end of the 2023 season, I may not rate Naylor below Herrera as he's coming on.. and is very talented.

Now, with respect to who the Guardians can acquire, My # 1 target would be Langeliers mostly due to the A's depth at the position and need for starting pitching prospects for 2024 and beyond and their love of guys like Jake Fox/Gabriel Arias.. etc.. Herrera would be choice # 4 (he'd also be behind the Pirates first overall pick last year.. but, that ain't happening with the Buccos unless names like Espino and Williams are on the table... a HARD PASS, imho)....

Thanks for the question.

If the circumstances are right I’d contemplate a Bieber deadline trade with the Jays if Moreno and Tiedemann are included in the deal:)

I don't think that would happen... But I think most of us could understand the deal.
