Second half 22 GM Thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Maybe not, but the two teams have made a lot of trades with each other... lol
Have they been productive trades though? All I really remember is that one trade where they ended up with Yandy Diaz while we got Jake Bauers, although we may have not lost too poorly on that one with Santana's huge year.

I would add a 3rd team when acquiring prospects (Atlanta)..
Just how many of their traded away prospects have panned out/ done well?
Given the failure rate of prospects.. they're not in an "affirmative" category for deals cleveland has seen...

I dont have a problem with trading with Tampa and don't understand the angst.

The three way trade with them and Seattle turned out okay, if folks stop focusing on Bauers. It got us a huge year from Santana and the money to help pay for him. Besides, Yandy obviously was not a good fit in this org for multiple reasons.

I would do a rental of Luplow and DJ Johnson...and their remaining salaries...for a Battenfield every day of the week when we are out of contention.

Trading a teenager, who will be R5 eligible before he is MLB ready, for a fringe SP prospect is not a negative for me.

Okay I am making a weird trade...

Cleveland would offer Arias plus prospects for Contreras and Morel of the Cubs...

I am trying to figure out who would go with Arias... Clement/Miller can go, maybe Curry, Gaddis

We’re in agreement, it’s a weird trade. A couple of poor defensive players with bottom of the barrel contact rates, why not just play Franmil and keep the prospects?

If you’re looking for a bat there are better ones on the market.

If there was a GM out there who valued Arias at all, I'd make a deal.

And bring up Rocchio to take his place in Columbus.

I do wonder if we can pull a few quantity for quality trades with some team that has a barren upper farm system. Arias could easily be one of the pieces in that trade, as could many others (LH OF, 3B, MIFs mainly). The main goals would be:
Balancing out the system (with RH bat-first OF/1B)
Freeing up spots in the 40 man so we could more freely move around guys, also preparation for next year's R5

I think we're in a good position with our talent in Columbus and Akron. The question is how to extract maximum value out of it.

I think that what we do with the Civale replacement/extra DH pitcher will be telling on how they approach the trade deadline. Do they go for they wins or continue to slow-play prospects (for their own good)?

Based on AAA stats, Battenfield is playing much better than McCarty and Pilk, especially over the last 3 games. However, the Guardians have been protecting the better prospects for McCarty/Tully/Pilk trio of innings eaters. Pilk may be good but let's face it, he is not in the upper tier.

They have also been clearing out the mid-range fringe prospects in Myers, Tully, McCarty as especially for Rule 5. If they continue the Pilk for Civale and McCarty as DH guy, I think they only make a slow play at trade deadline. If they go Battenfield for Civale, it will be their first move to win now and open up trade possibilities at deadline.

I also do not think, the value of prospects worth trading at deadline will amount to much if the Guardians are not in a win-now mode. As other suggest, what will Benson, Enright, Gabriel Rodriquez give up right now? Not much. Yes, Tena, Curry and Naranjo will give you more but that assumes that Guardians want to trade prospect capital for wins in a year that they believe playoffs is the upper limit of possibilities (not win in playoffs as assist GM suggested a few weeks ago). Look at the value of people at Risk ... that is our excess value right now -- it is our use it or lose it value. Tena and others are our value if we want to win but only if we want to spend. FO may feel that they increased value of holding onto a prospect for 1 more year (time value of money/interest) is more valuable than trying to sell off now.

Top 8 out
Hedges, Maile, Call, McCarty, Tully, Castro, Clement, Shaw (None of these give you much in trade, if anything at all)

Top 8 in
Vargas, Morris from DL, Naylor, Brennan, Cantillo, Battenfield, Martnez, Hankins

Others to protect - Curry, Gaddis, Miko/Benson
Trades (for younger non-rule 5 prospects) - Reyes, Rosario, Plesac/Civale

At Risk - Benson/Miko, Delgado, Rodriquez, Sanquintin, Frias, Torres (will be last year's Cantillo - injury/other issues keep him relatively safe to slip through), Misiasek, Enright

Others not FULLY guaranteed a spot if you need 1 or 2 more slots for these at risk guys- Gose, Sandlin and Karinchak (depending how he adjusts to non-sticky rules) and Gonzalez (if he can re-adjust to pitchers adj to him).

It will be hard to get everyone in that we want ... but again what will a Benson, Gose, Sandlin, Civale, ... get you now? What is the increase in value to a Morris, Hankin, Cantillo, Vargas... if we hold onto them for 1 more year (where they shine brighter w less injury questions/concerns)? Sometimes, it is better to hold tight and just move fringe pieces than go all in on trades. Don't know what FO will do ... just playing devil's advocate.

@Gson @CDAV45

I thought of a new trade and a new target...

Cleveland gets

LHP Brock Burke
INF Cameron Cauley

Texas gets

OF Brennan
SS Tena
SP Curry

I feel like this would fill in left handed reliever while still giving us an upside as a SP as well...

Now this deal wouldn't be 100% done, but Texas I believe really wants a solid OF prospect near MLB ready...

Don't mind dealing Curry or Tena. Very good prospects, but we have guys that are as good or better. I'm not dealing Brennan, but I bet he's being asked about and probably goes.

I don't see the benefit of this deal Coach. The combination of Curry, Tena and Brennan should be able to net you a lot more than that. I understand your desire for another BP arm, but I don't think Burke is the answer you're looking for.

Pilk is not in the upper tier and never was. His ceiling is a MOR SP and his floor is a LHRP. I suspect he ends up somewhere between. I would try to expose him and see if he can build some value because he isn't long for the rotation IMO. There's just too much talent coming. I think Battenfield has a higher ceiling than Pilkington, but he's not upper tier either and he'll be in the same boat. I think both Pilkington and Battenfield can be effective, successful ML SP that eat up a shit ton of innings. Workhorse types.

I have no idea what they're going to do. I suspect that there will be a deal or 2 that sends out a few/some of the ML ready prospects for younger prospects that don't have to be rostered anytime soon. I'll use Coach's deal as an example. Instead of sending Curry, Tena and Brennan out for a LHRP and a low value IF prospect I can see a high valued, low level prospect coming back. That's one avenue I would pursue to ease the pressure of the upcoming R5 even though I think it's being a little overplayed.

Burke has always been a starter til this season, so he could be more than a reliever, but for now he would be a reliever.

Yep and not a very good one. He would be further down the depth chart than Curry. If I had to choose between Burke and Hentges I take Hentges every time.

So let's see here... Baseball savant begs to differ with you... Hentges is almost all blue, Burke is almost all red...

Baseball savant says Burke is the better pitcher

You are way too high on Hentges and Gose...
