An interesting deal was posted to the BTV site (KSchit A's/Card's deal) that has some interesting possibilities..
The original "unbalanced" deal has:
A's get Tink Hence, Masyn Winn and Alec Burleson..
Cards get Sean Murphy
I don't think the A's want a SS who can't hit.. or a pitcher that can't throw strikes (Masyn Winn). So, the A's would be inclined to pass on the deal. Likewise, the Cardinals would be thrilled with Murphy, but, not at that price.. They'd want "more".. Two separate deals could resolve the obstacles to the deal..
A's get Tink Hence, Alec Burleson and Ivan Herrera
Cards get Sean Murphy and AJ Puk
-the sean murphy value (should be lower once the season ends) still exists.. however, it is mitigated by the inclusion of the LHRP, Puk..
With the addition of Herrera along with the drafting of Daniel Susac and having Tyler Soderstrom, the A's can then take the one catcher the Guardians want and turn him into:
A's get Gabriel Arias, Richie Palacios and Zach Plesac
Guardians get Shea Langeliers, Denzel Clarke and Robert Puason
A few considerations:
-Langeliers is a ML ready now catcher who can pair with Bo Naylor to form a solid to spectacular tandem of all around backstops.
-The glut of 40 man rostered middle infielders is pared by one..
-The glut of 40 man rostered corner OF'ers is pared by one..
-Only Shea needs a forty man slot, opening two slots.
-Both prospects are very talented with Clarke being a rangy & athletic OF'er & is a cousin to the Naylors while Puason was one of the most heralded IFA's as a SS.. but, tbh, he could play just about anywhere inside the white lines. His speed, arm & stature physically profile as a CF'er or RF'er..
Thoughts?
