Set Free: Dante Exum

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
IMO he's at his best in the open floor where he does a decent job of getting to the rim on fast breaks. In the half-court offense his deficiencies are more obvious. He can't create his own shot and he's not a 3-point shooter. He needs to be in a movement-oriented offense where he can move without the ball, get the ball in space coming around a screen and then drive to the rim and get the layup or draw a foul.

He'd be better on a team that runs a lot more than the Cavs.

Looks like his good defense was maybe more a result of the players around him + a fluke series vs Harden. Certainly hasnt had the impact on that end I was hopeful of but we've got him for another year and I think he will continue getting 15-20mins so show us something Dante.

*He takes at least one bad fall every game

Should take Brandon Knight's seat on the bench until he gets dealt

Yea this is why I wasn't the biggest fan of the Clarkson trade so soon before the deadline.

This guy is awful AND he's still on the books next year for a nice chunk of change. He alone is worth the 2nd round picks. Clarkson actually has his own, innate value.

I really thought he turned the corner after having that big game. I wasn't expecting to him to have big games like that all the time but at least score between 13-19 points consistently. He doesnt even score 10 points a night...

I knew we would never see that again when I found out it was a career high

Exum being consistently poor as a 3 point shooter is why he will most likely be traded for his expiring contract instead of the Cavs retaining him long term. He gives you the other things you want as a backup guard for Sexton and Garland. It's just that his 3 point shooting is down right bad outside a handful of real hot games. Those few real hot 3 point shooting games really skew his percentage but it's something you can't rely to stretch the floor.

I wonder if Cavs would have looked at Haliburton different if Exum, Garland, and the rest of the team was playing like this at the end of last season. Haliburton is basically a better version of Exum and is a real good 3 point shooter.

Him being able to play the 3 could be huge for his value. I actually don’t mind him as a long term backup, especially if the Cavs can help him with his shot a little bit. But even now, he brings a ton of positives. And if you’re looking for someone to play behind Sexland, KPJ, Okoro, Windler - I’m not sure how much better you can do there. Basically, we’re talking about the 9th/10th/11th man when everyone is healthy, so of course that isn’t going to be a perfect player.

Also should have Windler and Cedi spacing for him

For him being in the league as long as he has his shot is definitely of concern.

However, his defense is borderline elite when he's engaged.
