Small Forward Safari (2022-23 edition)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cleveland gets: Trey Murphy III & DeVonte Graham
New Orleans gets: Ben Simmons, '24 unprotected swap from Cle, '27 first from Bkn via Philly
Brooklyn gets: Caris LeVert & Jonas Valanciunas

Why?
Cleveland gets their guy.
New Orleans gambles on Ben & gets two firsts as well.
Brooklyn gets a familiar face & a much needed big man.

When do we start seeing teams buying out players that are in the last season of their contract?

will there be any good SF available for us to get?

If a guy is good enough to help, I dont think you'll see him get bought out. Buyouts won't likely happen until after a guy is traded, attempts to trade him have beem exhausted and failed, or closer to March 1 (I think thats still the deadline to be playoff eligible).

What would it take to pry Josh Richardson from the Spurs?

It's going to be interesting to see. I'd imagine the best they're going to do is a lotto-protected 1st and not taking on additional long-term money. I suppose if they wanted to eat some salary maybe they can do better. I have a feeling they'll do their best to preserve as much cap as possible going into the offseason.

I think something like Cedi or Okoro, Windler, and 1-2 2nds for Richardson seems pretty fair. Basically let Spurs choose if they'd rather have all expiring money (Cedi & Windler) or if they'd want to take a chance on rehabbing Okoro.

Looking at last year’s deadline, this was probably the most comparable trade if you’re looking at acquiring Richardson, McDermott, or someone similar. Those guys are better than Craig, but it’s just a reference point:

Suns get:
Pacers get:

Making trades is fun! But I think my Tari Eason bias might be showing in this trade?

Just don't understand how any Cavs fan could come up with that. Simply awful.

Is he really a SF? He looked really damn small to me.

He looks and plays like a poor man's Caris LeVert. He did have a good game against the Cavs this week.

Yeah I don't really see how he does anything.

Tough game against the Spurs seeing the 2 guys we didn't get in Vassell and Johnson.
