Small Forward Safari (2022-23 edition)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm skeptical you can get someone better than Levert for 20M.

I hope they are opportunities and continue looking for upgrades, but I feel better than I did about this even with Okoro playing poorly

I’m not saying to replace LeVert or that you can get someone better for $20M. I’m saying adding another 3&D forward makes us better in the front court and back court because it lets LeVert play more SG. Could also look at a bench shooter at SG.

Dean Wade seems like a good 3 and D guy. Sorry, he just had a helluva game.

Right, what I'm saying is adding another SF to the rotation so Wade/mystery SF can play those minutes with LeVert as the scorer off the bench playing mostly SG, OR finding another bench shooter at SG so Wade/LeVert can split all the SF minutes.

Based off last night's game, I'd definitely scratch Cam Reddish off any sort of wishlist. He was brutally bad. Levert looks better and better, even on a rotten shooting night he was still moving the ball and playing solid defense.

I get it, but you end up burying Wade for no reason when he is cheap and effective.

LIke you will trade Cedi and something else for a guy who is both a better defender and better shooter than wade and costs 20M? Who is that?

Seems like unnecessarily running your tax bill up for maybe an improvement. I don't think this matters at all once Rubio comes back. It will be Levert and Wade/Cedi with one of those guys not playing much or when there are injuries.

I like Jmoney's idea of getting a guy like Otto Porter for the MLE better.

I never said to take on salary or increase a tax bill. Not sure where you got that from. Cedi + Okoro + Windler = $20M in tradeable salary. I'm just not of the belief of trusting Cedi or Okoro is a good idea. You don't need to add a $20M guy, but you have the salary to move if needed. That player just takes Cedi & Okoro's minutes, not Wade's. The goal would be to add a bench piece without going into the tax this year. Struggling to see the disconnect here.

Trading up to 20M for your 3rd string SF?

Or do you want someone to replace Levert or Wade? I guess I don't get it. A defensive specialist and a guy who can get as hot as anyone in the league who has a ton of chemistry with Darius, Mitchell, Love and Rubio seem pretty good as your 3rd and 4th SF's

I started this thread, so it's my own fault, but Im genuinely curious where folks think these other names mentioned will play (assuming this team maintains the general direction its going)?

Unless you're getting a clear upgrade (Paul George? Durant? Scottie Barnes?), are the names mentioned worth taking resources from Koby and time away from Wade, Levert and Cedi?

I think I’ve said three different times it wouldn’t be about paying $20M for your 3rd SF or replacing LeVert or Wade, but for whatever reason you keep repeating it.

What I'm saying is LeVert can play SG or SF, and we have the pieces to add another rotational guy at SF or SG that might be a better fit than Cedi or Okoro. I think Wade eventually takes over as the starting SF, making LeVert the 6th man. So the question is, can you use your money to find a better complimentary bench piece than Okoro or Cedi?

If you look at teams that will likely sell, the Kings seem like a solid bet. I'd love to be able to add Malik Monk as a guy who can shoot and create with some athleticism. Monk's making $9.4M this year and $9.9M next year.

So in my thinking, it'd be something along the lines of Okoro + Windler + Stevens for Monk + Lyles. Or (if you want) you could swap Cedi.

PG: Garland, Rubio, Neto
SG: Mitchell, Monk
SF: Wade, LeVert, Cedi, Stevens
PF: Mobley, Love
C: Allen, Lopez

Adds another scoring threat off the bench. LeVert can swing between SG/SF depending on matchup. Just an idea on how to adjust the roster a bit based on what we've seen. Not saying that's the answer necessarily, but that'd be the idea of using Okoro/Cedi + Windler in a trade.

I guess with Rubio coming back and knowing Caris needs to get his min at the 3, I don't see a scenario outside of injury that justifies giving Wade and Cedi so many fewer minutes.

For me, I think you have to trade Caris and Cedior maybe a pick to get an actual upgrade at the 3 if you are going to do something. Seems like too much of a lateral move otherwise.

I mean you want a prolific 3pt guy? Who is better and cheaper than Cedi? You want a 3 and D guy? Who is better and cheaper than Wade.

There are overpaid guys who are more one dimensional than those guys, but is a guy like Josh Richardson or Monk actually more than a lateral move?I'm unconvinced.

Move them for an upgrade? Sure. One of these mid level roleplayers I dunno

And the game after it's perfect...which is exactly what I said LeVert was. Inconsistent.
I’m not sure what you are expecting to get from the guy on the court. Also, it’s not like there are an abundance of wings available that can be had if we trade Levert. Your expectations and reality don’t really match up here.
