So Long, Jadeveon Clowney

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good news. It’s coming together

This really isnt good. If we know this, every GM knows this, we are going to have to eat almost all 19 mill. I thought he would be tradeable and get a late pick, but the more we know, the worse this gets

For all the shit the Browns org takes, they just signed a quality free agent at a discount. When was the last time that happened?

We’re starting to see the effects of a quality Browns org. (And yeah, a quality Browns QB.)

Respectfully to Ian Rapoport, there's no way this is true as it's being reported.

Clowney MAYBE had an offer of 2/28 from another team right when free agency opened and he turned it down trying to get more and then the money dried up.

There absolutely was not any $14-15M per year offers out there for him currently.

Offseason complete.

Piggy backing off this, who's to say it wasn't say a 2 yr $28m deal with $14m guaranteed?

A deal like that isn't all that different than 1 yr $11m fully guaranteed. Assuming this new contract is fully guaranteed.

Essentially sacrificing $3m to play for a contender with an opportunity to still cash in big next year with another strong season.

I have my suspicions if a team was actually offering $14M guaranteed, Clowney would be playing elsewhere.

He has always been upfront about being a mercenary.

I also suspect when the final numbers come out that we'll find out Clowney can earn up to $11M and he probably only has like $8M fully guaranteed.

Exactly. I don’t believe it at all unless that included some crazy incentives that got the deal up to 14M. Most likely the agent threw that out there to pump up the deal.

There may have been a 2-28 offer out there, but with what team? If it was an under .500 team where Clowney would be the #1 DE guy with not much support in the interior (think us without Miles), he would be double teamed, his stats would be decline and there wouldn't be much in the way of offers above vet league minimum in 2024. Another year like last year in our system across from Miles and he could still get a 2 or 3 multiyear deal in 2023 at age 30. If the rumor of Watson being here played into the situation, that could save us money again next year if we wanted to play the waiting until May to sign game.

I believe this to be huge for Alex Wright.

Not only can he sit back and learn behind Clowney and Myles, but he'll have a direct comparison in how to win at the NFL level in Clowney.

Not only is it huge for Wright, it’s huge for Winovich.

He’s sort of become an afterthought, but as the rotational edge, being able to play him outside of Clowney on obvious passing downs, or even to spell either, is a massive, massive bonus.

Last year, when Takk was alone, the line noticeably struggled. This year, they reasonably have a four end rotation. Awesome.
