Summer League Game 1: Charlotte vs. Cleveland , Sunday, July 15 2012, 8:30pm EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It was just one game, but I wasn't too excited by what I saw in Waiters.

Waiters is too much of an airhead to ever succeed on this level. Hey Grant ill buy ya season tickets next year so you wont have to sit at home,
fuckin dumbass

Ah, there's the over-reaction I was looking for when I heard about this late-minute snafu he caused. Mistakes were made.

I can't fully judge Waiters until I see him playing next to a PG that can dribble past back court pressure and setup a basic play. I want to see Waiters play off the ball more. Unfortunately we will have to wait until preseason for that. My main gripe with him though is that he blended in with the undrafted guys. For a guy with a chip on his shoulder I expected a lot more.

I'm also a bit worried about Waiters' personality. Byron is going to have to work with him A LOT! He took himself out of the game defensively when his offense wasn't working out. He seemed a little hot headed too and had some frustrating gestures towards the refs. I can definitely see him butting heads with Byron or his teammates if things don't go well. He'll have to be kept in check.

Also, it's very disappointing that the Cavs let this one slip away. The loser mentality and the poor body language we've seen over the last 2 seasons creeped it's ugly head back to Las Vegas tonight. Summer League guys or not, tonight's loss was unacceptable.

Dion shows ability to do some nice things with the ball and it's nice he was also looking for teammates while attacking the rim. He's going to have to actually try on defense because he's going to see the end of the bench a lot with the lack of effort on defense. He also seems to get on his teammates a lot if they do something he doesn't like. I kind of like it. Forces perfection out of them because they will be too scared to do something wrong.

Sloan looked good and bigger than from what I remember. I like his pg ability.

Samuels looks good but ultimately is the same player except thinner.

Zeller looked awesome. Really rare to find a 7 foot big man with his mobility and skill level.

Jesus you gimps need to relax, first game

No kidding remember kyries first game? It's summer league he's gonna have games like this and then other games where he explodes. I really really love zellers game.

Waiters body language especially in the defensive end is not good. I hope it is just because it is his first game back from months of actual competitive basketball because coach Scott would make him cry at camp.

Pretty much what I thought I would see from Waiters is what I saw. Guy with great talent that settled at times. Poor defensive effort. I was actually quite astonished at the amount of plays he flat out gave up on. Pretty disappointing. The box scores in this summer league aren't going to mean much unless you're looking at TO's or FT%. Dion's not gonna get the greatest looks in the summer league, but he tried to get to the hole more in the 2nd half. Anyway, I guess someone actually has to tell this man he shouldn't be a flat footed spectator on defense.

To be fair that was against NBA players not guys that will won't have jobs in a week.

I think his defensive tendencies was to expect help everytime a man passes by him since he has been used to playing in a zone for two years.

Dion just didn't do anything that stood out from these other scrubs on the team. TT, Zeller, Samuals, and Sloan all looked solid in different ways. Donald Sloan looked much better than Dion . I think we may have our backup PG (for this coming season at least.) I'm really hoping Dion just had a shitty game but I was not impressed; I wanted him to show me why he was selected #4 overall.

The Cavs looked like a team who just lost their stud point guard. Waiters seemed like a guy who was suddenly unsure of his role without Irving on the court. Zeller is certainly polished.

I don't know why, but Eric really impressed me. I like his potential as a shot blocker and rebounder.

I was unhappy with all the turnovers. but they did start 3 Experienced NBA starters vs 1. or 2 if you want to count Sloan.

True but still it's one game and his first in the nba. You could tell he didn't want to force too many things and wanted to be a good teammate and all. As for the defense, it's summer league I highly doubt many of the guys would play with intensity on d than they would in a regular season game. He will be just fine

The Bobcats certainly played with intensity on the defensive end during the second half...... No excuses for bad/lazy defense, ever.
