The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think the difference here was Andrelton Simmons missing a lot of time; he only played 64% of their games and qualified for the innings on the last game of the season.
Good point about Simmons & how he qualified..

It is a relatively strong/deep catcher FA class, but I still imagine Gomes should be seeing a 2 yr ~$10m type of deal.

Alright. I guess the Indians are back to being the only good team in this city.
It will be interesting to see which club has more wins by the end of 2019 - Browns or Cavs..

I would not be surprised if Gomes is back with the Nats. I can understand them not picking up the $9M option but Suzuki is 37 and Raudy Read (now 26) does not appear to be a guy ready to step into the void.

Might just be a way to rework the finances and make both sides happy..

Any targets you guys having in free agency if we spend that way?

I would like to get a veteran setup man at the end of the day either via free agency or trade, but honestly I don’t see anything else I would go out and spend money on.

I feel we gotta give our in house OFs the chance to earn the 4-5 spots on the roster. I mean it’s a good bet we end up with 9 OFs on the 40 man roster since Tom and Johnson will likely be added here soon.

Gyorko to me seems like a target for the Indians for the starting 2B/3B spot since he had a bad year and will likely come cheap this off season. We have other targets but a one year flier on a reclamation project will likely be cheaper than bringing back Kipnis plus it gives Chang, Arroyo, Mike Freeman and Mathias (likely the internal candidates) to get a chance to get that everyday spot as well. The last two guys are long shots, but then again Mathias and Freeman had years no one expected so we never know

Gyorko would make a lot of sense

If we’re going the reclamation route for the infield, then I would take a flier on Travis Shaw if/when he gets non-tendered. I’m torn on whether they should sign a corner outfielder like Corey Dickerson or Kole Calhoun, or instead give Daniel Johnson an opportunity in RF at least until Naquin returns.

I like the idea of Shaw coming in at a lower cost than many other options & giving Luplow/ GAllen/ DJohnson/ KTom regular playing time (legit opportunities) until Naquin returns.

Shaw could play 3B (& backup at 1B) while JRam shifts over to 2B. This allows for Bauers to be in AAA & playing on a daily basis while getting time in LF (to improve) & 1B. One of Mike Freeman/ Yu Chang/ Arroyo can serve as additional depth in Cleveland.

For me - Zimmer starts the season in AAA so he is playing on a daily basis until other internal options prove to be unreliable...

Shaw's tender status is likely contingent on how confident Milwaukee is about their chances to re-sign Moustakas. Losing Moustakas, Grandal, and declining Shaw over ~$5m or so without a suitable replacement would be a disaster

Is their any outside bullpen arms available you guys think? I mean in the 2020 GM thread I made a deal for a young guy, but outside of that I am not sure if the market and budget support trying to get anyone this season, but I would like to get a veteran that can setup Hand in my mind/be his back up closer

Chris Martin would be my top "somewhat under the radar" target. 65 strikeouts to 5 walks last year (10.5 K/9). Bit HR prone, but who isn't? Would certainly welcome back Tyler Clippard as well.

Think the bullpen is in decent shape with Karinchak (hopefully) starting the season on the ML roster. Kyle Nelson could be another internal option. Think finding that "#2" supporting role can wait till the deadline.
