The 2021 Cleveland Baseball Organization

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If he passes waivers, we can outright him to Columbus, correct? What status do you have to have to possess the right to refuse being outrighted and become a free agent?
A player must accept the 1st outright to the minors (once they clear the waiver claims process).
After that 1st time, it up to the player to accept or reject the assignment to the minors (even if it was another team that had outrighted the player previously)..

we cant wait to see him (Bauers) down here in cbus
Seriously, I ask why.
As Bauers plays he takes away at-bats/ playing time from others (either in MLB or MiLB).

With the lost minor league season in 2020, every AB/ inning in the field is time and opportunity for someone that got limited/ no chance a year ago.
The forth-coming roster crunch at the end of this season screams for development being given to others so informed/ best decisions can be made by the FO.

I would rather see someone else "struggle" in AAA then more chances be given to the black hole of Jake Bauers.

sarcasm - but figured as a Cleveland fan Bauers would do less harm in cbus than in the land

Nope - only 1 type of waivers now - the type were player control is given away to anyone claiming that player...

When the waiver trade deadline was eliminated a few ago, "revocable waivers" was also eliminated.

EDIT: a player can refuse assignment to the minors but it is after they have accrued a set amount of MLB service time. Yes, that is 5 yrs of service time
thanks

I thought he was being facetious.
Tone can be easily misunderstood on a chat board.

I have seen other places have posters use a blue font on items intended to be tongue in cheek/ sarcastic/ facetious. Perhaps it is time to bring that practice onto this board to help avoid problems.

So for example the statement "Jake Bauers has a bright future as 1B in CLE" is altered so everyone is clear the author means anything but that...

The original post talked about Bauers being claimed by another team via waivers. The poster responded that "we cant wait to see him (Bauers) down here in cbus." Seems pretty clear that he's making a joke that no team is going to pick him up off waivers and that he can't wait to have him back in the minor leagues instead of in the majors continuing to suck.

This one sure looks to be on you... not on a lack of blue text.

@MadThinker88

The only disadvantage of cutting Bauers completely (which I don't think anyone at this moment is against it) is the fact we have almost no depth with experienced 1B. We have Bradley then guys like Naylor, Chang, Marabell who can play there, but lack innings/have some issues there overall. A guys like a Miller and Jones might get thrown there (both did a little in spring training, and with 2B, SS, and 3B taken at the big league club makes sense to try them there).

Bauers is our best defensive 1B... Personally let the other guys play there and see what works. I don't want Bauers back in Columbus...

Prediction:
Hentges remains on the big league roster.
Bauers is DFA’d.
Ben Gamel is recalled.

My hunch is that they want to make Luplow the everyday RF, and they also aren’t ready to limit Amed Rosario exclusively as a platoon partner in CF.

Amed is really struggling against right handed pitching is this an ongoing issue with him?

Yes, his career OPS against RHP to this point has been .658. However, it's probably wise considering his age and how he's only been in the organization for a few months to give him at least a little while longer to improve against RHP. If he continues to struggle against RHP a month from now or so, I could easily see Daniel Johnson (finally) getting a shot at CF against righties.

Clearly Bauers has to go and is likely gone already with Naylor as his replacement. I'm not sold that will work out either, but I have a lot more faith in Josh than I do Jake.

3B is obviously covered, as is LF, DH, 2B, and RF. Yes, I think RF is Luplow's to lose.

SS has 2 pretty good candidates even if they aren't Lindor. If a choice had to be made between Rosario or Gimenez which one would you fine folks choose right now? I think Gimenez has more upside and both are struggling offensively at the moment.

I think that CF should be upgraded. I think Amed is doing much better out there, but I want more offensive upside. I think that his upside and Mercado's are relatively the same, but I think that Amed is more likely to realize that upside. Johnson probably won't get the call as long as Amed is on the roster. I don't think they want to platoon either Amed or Johnson, and that is understandable IMO. They still have Zimmer, Mercado, and Gamel as well.

There's one more upgrade I'd like to see happen and that's in the rotation. There is a team out there that may match up well with Cleveland and that is Colorado. Gray is pitching well and Cron is hitting well. Neither are expensive or signed long term. I don't know what that would mean for Naylor, but I don't really give a shit honestly. I guess they could use Josh to spell any of Rosario, Luplow, and Cron, as well as pinch hit. That still leaves CF up in the air, but the jury is still out on the current options.

Naylor is really looking down on himself, and he Should be.

Keith Law had Naylor as one of his breakout candidates this year, along with Keston Hiura. So far, not so good.

I assume it is the winter clothes under their uniforms, but if it is not. We might have a little conditioning concern with some of our players.
