You frame your questions in a weird manner…(and yes, you failed to respond in English to the other topic)
I don’t have a problem with either… I like Koby’s aggression and fearless way of going for it… Yes, I would have preferred a move at the deadline — I don’t understand really making a big splash last summer and not maximizing what you could with that roster last season…
That said, the depth on this team is poor. The front court was a nice nostalgic feel, but the novelty has worn off and that front court (as currently constructed) will never help lead the team to the ultimate prize…Clear as day!
In terms of JBB — I do truly believe in building a foundation and culture…Many of these coaches inherit quality rosters and get credit for their success without really growing from the ground up.
JBB has the opportunity to get better at his craft— to surround himself with other members who can aid in his development as well.
2 seasons ago he had a roster that surprised the league — last season he coached a team that won 50 or so games — I would like to see what he can do with a PF who hopefully takes his game to the next level and a bench that provides more depth all the while keeping the core in tact. (And yes that unfortunately means keeping JA/Evan together— with hopefully down the road moving JA to the bench)
But building off that and taking the natural steps of progression..
In general, while I questioned some of Koby’s early decisions, it’s like people completely forget the Cavs won 22 games just two seasons ago. The Cavs are now a winning team, and that is ultimately more important to most young players development than getting unlimited opportunities and minutes on shitty teams. Learning how to win reveals weaknesses a lot quicker than losing all the time.
There’s depth problems, but it’s nothing that can’t be addressed. It just wasn’t going to happen in one offseason. If anything big happens this year, I’m guessing it’s Allen getting traded mid-season. Otherwise (as you said) I anticipate Koby giving the ‘Core 4’ a second full season together before making any big move.
In the past two seasons the Cavs have made the playoffs, won 50+ games, had a All-NBA 2ND teamer, three All-Stars, and a guy that probably should’ve won DPOY and made 1st Team All-NBA Defense. Again, this is a team that had won 22 games just two years ago. No one would’ve images this was possible at that point in time.
I think there’s a lot of people caught up on needing an All-Star at SF when all the Cavs really need right now is a serviceable player that can start, shoot, and hopefully play some small ball 4. If we can get that, a little added depth, and improvement from Mobley, this should be a much better team than last season.
Cavs also spent a lot of time messing around with LeVert trying to find his role last year. Assuming the Cavs can find a serviceable SF, LeVert should be significantly more comfortable in his role this year. I’d expect him to be much better to start the year when he knows his role and understands how he needs to play off Garland and Mitchell.
