The Andre Drummond Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Remember that one time we took Dion Waiters over this guy, and people on here defended it.

Good times.

I guess the question is, would you rather have Andre or Love?

The question really boils down to would you rather enjoy watching the best team in the NBA make years of title runs or dwell on the past of something that literally doesn't matter at all to our current team?

It's kinda hard to forget. Especially as that's the sole reason for the existence of this thread.

But maybe this will rekindle that intelligent, useful and informative debate, so thanks for that.

What do you want to discuss? Make a post about it and I'm sure some kind of discussion will follow.

Personally, I wanted to post about what a stupid folly that was, one that was called even at the time and posters like myself and others were laughed at as Dion Waiters was the next Dwyane Wade. So I did.

Tough.

It's in the Around the NBA Section, in the Andre Drummond thread. I mean, Cleveland teams can't draft. It's like a disease, a timeless disease, a chronic condition. Really, it's a phenomenon. I can't be the only one fascinated by this.

Chris, lighten up, i'm joking -- thought this thread has obviously always been Valanciunas light, that's all.

Anyway, you clearly got this one right. Even if I thing that regardless of whether Waiters was the correct pick, the decision to pass on Drummond was easily defensible at the time.

I forgot about Valanciunas actually. Never wanted him matter of fact.

I agree the argument could be made that it was defensible...but it just irks me that my favorite teams never draft who i want. I dont claim to be an expert by any means, yet the guys i want usually turn out to be better than who we took.

You seem drunk or on something.

Or channeling the inner Jigo, which is basically the same thing.

That was the major problem there. Drummond was dissected and picked apart like crazy due to the fact that there was a high probability that he was going to be available and a player with his size and athleticism was worth the gamble. Some thought that MJ might drafted him since you never know lol. Because of that availability, Drummond was dissected and picked apart by the naysayers like a muthafucka. Simply, they dug for every excuse to NOT draft him and pushed aside the tremendous potential he brought to the table. Drafting Dion wouldn't have been so bad if he was ON THE FUCKING RADAR. He wasn't even brought in for a workout or interviewed from what we heard. So we as fans were not able to discuss, dissect and destroy Dion like the naysayers did to Drummond. Man, imagine the debate pre-draft if Dion was in play. I bet if that was the case, most on these boards would rather have Drummond after breaking down Dion lol.

Anyways, this narrative (or excuse if you will) that not drafting Drummond put the pieces in motion to have Lebron come back, needs to be debunked. I don't buy that narrative at all. What if drafting Drummond made the decision easier for Lebron to come back? What if no matter what the Cavs did, Lebron was gonna come back anyways?

We might have gotten Kevin Love with Drummond instead of Wiggins and never gotten Wiggins in the first place, but we will never know that.

Most high draft picks are picked apart like that, though, that's part of the process. There seemed to be a lot of red flags with Drummond and I think one of the prevailing sentiments at the time was that the Cavs couldn't afford to miss on such a high pick because they were almost completely devoid of talent, save for the players from the previous draft. And of course there there was a strong group that wanted a center badly and zeroed in on Drummond as the only plausible option.

At the time, i remember a lot people thinking MKG or Beal would be perfect at 4, but then T-Rob slid out of the top 3 and those two were gone. I can't recall why Harrison Barnes wasn't really in the conversation, or maybe his warriorness washed it out of my mind.

So a lot of people were advocating taking less of a gamble.

And then of course they went ahead and took Dion and the rest is history.

But the point isn't really about Dion, it's more about painting the miss on Drummond as some sort of an indefensible sin.
