The Game (2022) | #2 Ohio State vs. #3 TTUN | November 26th, 2022 @ High Noon

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Next year is put up or shut up for Day. This year he had everything going his way including a home game and many returning starters (including the qb). Still got his ass beat. Next year he doesn't have those advantages, but he put himself in that position.

Offense has talent but needs adjustments. Play calling is stale and predictable. Need to force the ball to Harrison more, the other wrs (despite their recruiting ranking) are kind of lackluster honestly. Need to get better and more creative in the red zone.

The biggest problem I see is the secondary, especially the corner. We have some potential new blood ready to take over at safety but the corners were terrible all year long and we're probably rolling with the same ones next year. Knowles likes to run an aggressive defense so any decent passing attack will likely shred the porous secondary and I don't see any fix for that. Day better get that offense figured out and out score people.

I think the transfer portal gives a better opportunity to shore up holes with ready to play players. If they need to build up the secondary, Knowles should try to pick guy off in the transfer portal to come in to compete with our current corners.

The defensive backfield is atrocious. There’s no other way to put it.
To get abused that badly against a mediocre passing team is beyond embarrassing.
This is the Kerry Coombs lasting effect. The stench he left on the team may become irreversible. Add in Days one read offense and the deficiencies are apparent against a team that’s ready for you.
Nothing about this game was surprising though. OSU came out and couldn’t get the ball in the end zone. Sadly that was the difference.

Posters aren't going to like this but a loss to UM next year and the pressure to bring Urban will be overwhelming. With Fickell taking the Wisconsin job and Vrabel being extremely unrealistic there is no one else who fits the criteria of an Ohio State guy who understands the rivalry which the fan base will demand.

I think we need to make a couple adjustments, but I don’t think you can get rid of Day this soon.

Bringing back Urban Meyer might be your dumbest take yet.

That's saying something.

I guess I have to give you props on consistently raising the bar. Can't wait to see what you do next.

Currently 45-5 with 2 Big Ten championships and a National Title appearance during his tenure.

Loooooooooool but sure, be done with him.
That's why they're not going to fire him, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't. Teams of predominantly Day's recruits have yet to even win the Big Ten East. The lack of defensive talent is alarming. If there isn't a dramatic turnaround, they're in danger of going back to the late 80s and early 90s. Penn State is only getting better. Michigan has surpassed them. Fickell is perfect for Wisconsin. USC and UCLA will be joining the league after next season.

Day has turned Ohio State into Oklahoma of a few years ago but they play in the Big Ten. Those Oklahoma teams would have never sniffed a playoff playing in a conference with the teams I mentioned. They had better fix it fast or they'll be irrelevant for many years.

Can’t win the Big Ten, can’t beat Michigan, can’t win the natty obviously.

Those are the three goals of the program.

After 364 days of building up to this game, at home, with everything going for him… 23-45 is what we got.

It’s a statement about what the program has become under Day the further we get from the Urban era. Laugh all you want. Are you a Buckeye fan? Then you know what the expectations are in Columbus. And you know that 10-2 and 11-1, vs a schedule that includes Rutgers, Marylands, Indianas of the world, is. Not. Good. Enough.

Anyone who thinks it is, is patently full of shit.

Again. If any of this looked like a fluke I’d be happy to ride with Day. It isn’t. He looked like a rockstar in 2019 with Urban’s crew and culture still intact. They looked shaky in 2020 but recovered and had a great shortened season before getting blasted in the natty. A forgivable loss. 2021 was underperformance. 2022 is underperformance.

Trend is there. He isn’t going anywhere so whatever. We’ll see what 2023 brings. But I’m already seeing where Day’s tenure is heading.

And for everyone who thinks we have some great shot at it next year - yeah, going to Ann Arbor with a new QB? Staring down a 3 game losing streak in the rivalry. Not acceptable.
