The Jarvis Landry Thread: Bless 'Em

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The fact that we have the single most expensive and least productive wr room in the NFL should have everyone pissed off

No one spends more for less than the Browns

if it makes you feel better, we have 6 WR, the Cowboys and Charges have 5 so their per player average is better than ours.

It didnt make me feel better knowing this, but maybe you feel better now that you know we are 3rd not 1st in wr pay.

Landry had another below average game today...if he continues this trajectory I wouldn’t keep him next year either. We clear up more money to re-sign Teller, and give Baker & Ward extensions.

He’s still got $1.5 mil dead cap into 2022. They could restructure if it is just about freeing up cap space.

For me I’m not even really sure it’s just about freeing up cap space; I think I’m interested in seeking sheer upgrade at the role.

It has only been 2 games since his injury, though he has generally been durable and reliable for us.

I'd want to restructure but I absolutely want to keep Jarvis at this time. If he stinks it up the rest of the year then I'd probably feel differently.

Has he been drawing WR#1 coverage?

Just looked at the box score. Four catches for 26 yards.

That's what fifteen million dollars gets you.

On 5 targets...

The rest of the WRs had 7 targets (1 catch) and 16 yardsTOTAL. That seems like a passing/scheme issue more than a receivers issue.

No doubt our offense is more focused on getting the ball to the TE position in passing situations, but Landry just flat out isn't worth his contract. Paying a slot receiver fifteen million isn't a smart allocation of resources. I get why Dorsey made the move, because we needed to bring in some actual NFL talent to put around Baker, but I think his time here has played out. I like Landry the person and he's a solid NFL player, but he's paid like a superstar and he's never in his career given anywhere near superstar production.

If we're going to spend that kind of money at the position, I'd rather go after a guy like Chris Godwin or Allen Robinson in free agency. But I think the more likely scenario is that we use our first on a receiver this year if it's a mid to late first. If we're in the top fifteen, I'd wager EDGE may be a bigger priority given the depth in this class, at which point we'd probably use our second on a receiver.

I'd like Landry to be a Brown for the rest of his career, but he has to take a major pay cut to stick around.

One can hope that the Browns making him a made man on bad teams and continuing to pay him through the roof as they transitioned into contention bought some good will. There's certainly no other team who's going to pay him a ton of money.
